Illinois Department of Agriculture officials started spraying for gypsy moth caterpillars at Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks this week. They use a bacterium to help control the spread of the invasive moth, and though it’s not harmful to people or pets, it is sticky. The state plans to spray again seven to 10 days after the first application.
