Harley Quinn Season 5 Episode 7 Recap And Ending Explained
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Harley Quinn season 5, episode 7
Harley Quinn season 5, episode 7 features Poison Ivy swearing revenge over a recent death, only to discover that the murderer's true identity was not who she assumed. As the city Metropolis continues to be in danger, Harley and Poison Ivy set their sights on Brainiac after things take a personal and tragic turn. However, the dangers they are facing end up getting a lot more complex by the episode's end.
As seen in previous episodes of Harley Quinn season 5, Brainiac intended to perfect Metropolis before shrinking and bottling it for his collection. However, the recent reveal that his pet monkey Koko had actually been dead for decades and that his mind had gone insane has seemingly driven Brainiac to a far darker place, while also allowing him to break the fourth wall and talk to the audience directly. With that in mind, here is our recap and ending explainer for Harley Quinn season 5, episode 7, as Harley and Ivy go after the Coluan supervillain in this new episode.
Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 7 Recap
"Frankette"
- A funeral is held for Frank the Plant who was murdered backstage in Harley Quinn season 5, episode 6.
- Following Frank's video message and over 500 requests, Ivy swears revenge before "Frankette" is born, a new baby plant-human hybrid made from the combined DNA of Frank and Ivy.
- Lena Luthor knows who killed Frank, claiming that Brainiac killed him. She also offers her teleporter from when she was working with him before he betrayed her.
- Harley and Ivy have Bane babysit Frankette and Shawn (who ran away from King Shark again), allowing them to go after Brainiac.
- Harley and Ivy find a depressed Brainiac, eating a bowl of microchips, speaking to the audience, and rewatching Clayface's musical about him.
- Wanting to see it all burn, Brainiac elects to destroy Metropolis one building at a time.
- Harley distracts Brainiac with the musical while Ivy shrinks him with his own Hyper Ray.
- The drones are still attacking Metropolis, and Brainiac reveals Lena was the one who actually killed Frank to get Harley and Ivy to take the threat seriously.
- Ivy says she'll take care of Lena while Harley saves Metropolis, though Harley can't figure out how to stop the drones.
- Lena escapes Ivy, but Frank's ghost tells Ivy in The Green to stop chasing Luthor and go save Frankette.
- Ivy, Bane, Frankette, and Shawn fight multiple Brainiac drones trying to bring down Metropolis' Dutch Immersion School.
- At a loss, Harley offers Lena anything to help save the day who shuts down the drones.
- In full control of Brainiac's ship, Lena plugs herself in as a new Brainiac while taking Frankette hostage to keep Harley and Ivy divided.
Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 7's Ending Reveals The Season's TRUE Villain
Lena Luthor Becomes The New Brainiac
By the end of Harley Quinn season 5, episode 7, Lena Luthor is revealed to be the season's true big bad. Wanting to rule over Metropolis in its entirety, Lena originally cut a deal with Brainiac so she could do just that if she helped keep his activities secret. However, Brainiac's betrayal led Lena to try and expose the Coluan supervillain, only for Harley, Ivy, and company to not really take her seriously, having chosen to produce a Brainiac musical, one that ended up making the villain somewhat sympathetic thanks to Clayface and Bane's poetic license with the script.

Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 7 Review: I'm Really Conflicted About The DC Series' True Villain Reveal After A Wild Story Twist
Harley Quinn season 5 explores grief through a hilarious lens, introducing an exciting new character as Brainiac descends upon Metropolis.
Lena killed Frank to get Harley and Ivy to take Brainiac seriously by pinning him for the murder, a ploy that definitely worked long enough to get the duo to shrink the Coluan. This effectively left his advanced alien technology and skull ship up for grabs, especially after a desperate Harley basically gave it up to Lena to save the city and everyone she cared about. Now, Harly Quinn season 5, episode 7 ends with Lena plugging herself into the ship as a brand-new Brainiac, essentially confirming that she'll be the main antagonist for the season's final three episodes.
Harley and Ivy Are Now More Divided Than Ever
What's Going To Bring Them Back Together?
Lena also takes Frankette hostage at the end of Harley Quinn season 5, episode 7. Not caring about the baby plant herself, Lena confirms to the shrunken Brainiac that what matters is that Harley and Ivy care about Frankette, and that her abduction will keep them divided. Recognizing that they're stronger together, Lena's already taking steps to cement her rule over Metropolis, and it does seem like her plan works with Poison Ivy blaming Harley for accepting Lena's help to save Metropolis in the first place.
