"He Made Decisions That Have Consequences": Peter's Journey In The Night Agent Season 2 Teased By Star

Gabriel Basso teases Peter Sutherland's story arc in Netflix's conspiracy series, The Night Agent season 2. The new batch of episodes will follow Basso's titular character as he investigates a CIA leak and a potential attack in New York as a newly established night agent. Ahead of the season 2 premiere, the streamer has given green light to season 3. While each season revolves around its own independent plot, there will also be loose ends in season 2 that will continue into season 3.

Ahead of season 2's premiere on Thursday, January 23, Basso discusses Peter's story arc with TV Insider. The star teases that some decisions that Peter will make in season 2 will "have consequences," especially with season 2 leaving him "in a tight spot." Basso also hints that some of those decisions will be "bad," and the new season will also see Peter in a mental battle with his own actions and choices. Check out what Basso said below:

Now his future options are limited. He made decisions that have consequences, and I find that refreshing that the writers did [that], where the show isn’t insulated from or its own thing, like decisions compound.

It’s not like, okay, wipe the slate clean, next season, Peter saves…It carries and snowballs. Every decision Peter makes in Season 2 will have an effect for Season 3. Having been shooting it now, I can tell you that he is in a tight spot.

I don’t know if there are any good decisions he could have made. I think the point of Season 2 was to see how far he would go to do what he thought was the right thing to do or the right thing to do objectively, regardless of what that means for him. So I think that’s Peter’s biggest battle is staying objective and saying, is this the right thing to do or is this the subjectively selfish right thing to do? Is this the right thing for me or is this the right thing? And he definitely makes some bad decisions, in my opinion, in Season 2, but he’s living with it now.

What Basso's Comments Mean For Peter's Story Arc

Peter's Story Arc In Season 2 Will Leave Questions For Season 3 To Answer

In the same cover story, the show's executive producer Shawn Ryan also teases a looming presidential election, which will at first be in the background but eventually "have an impact" on the story. Basso's comment suggests that, unlike The Night Agent season 1's ending, which leaves Peter in a better place than he started, the new season might cause some damage to his life and make him question himself.

This means that Peter's story arc is not going to be easy and lighthearted in season 2. Instead, there might be heartbreak and struggles. Basso's comment also offers a small update on season 3's production. With him knowing what's going to happen to Peter in The Night Agent season 3, this also means that there is an overarching aspect to Peter's story arc in the next two seasons, and viewers might get to know more about the night agent's future once season 2 arrives on Netflix.

Our Take On The Night Agent Season 2

The Night Agent Season 2 Is Taking Some Risks With Peter

It sounds like Peter's life is about to get a lot harder in the next two seasons. The Night Agent season 1 left Peter in a good place. Despite being known as the son of a traitor and framed for crimes he didn't commit, the truth eventually prevails. Peter receives a promotion for safeguarding Rose and figures out the traitor in the White House. For the most part, Peter is a hero, and there hasn't been one moment that would lead viewers to question his judgment.

This will likely change in The Night Agentseason 2, and maybe the role will reverse when he's the one who needs protection. Rose is returning, and unlike in the season 1 finale, where she was left to explore the unknown, it's been teased that she'll be in a much better position than Peter. The good news is that fans won't be waiting forever for season 3 to return, and all episodes of season 2 will arrive all at once.
