HHS director nominee RFK Jr unlikely to be an strong advocate for American conventional farming


His potential influence over the USDA is unclear following Trump’s announcement, but he does appear to have permission from Trump to get involved in food and farming policies. US-based agricultural analyst Brett Stuart said RFK had some “wild ideas when it came to food” including a move away from seed oils and pesticide-intensive agriculture.
“So this is the guy who Trump has said: ‘I’m going to let him go wild on the food system’, which is more than a little unsettling,” Mr Stuart said.
In a video on social media, RFK said he was determined to ban “the worst agricultural chemicals that are already prohibited in other countries” and give farmers “an off-ramp” and encourage more regenerative farming.

RFK’s views on chemicals could have a negative impact on crop yields if implemented and would likely be unpopular with most US farmers.
