Balatro Review: "The Next Great Deckbuilder Roguelite"

Video poker and deckbuilding combine in Balatro, an unassuming but obscenely addictive card game that is one of the first indie hits of the year.

That isn't the only exciting part of this announcement either, as this Balatro drop also comes alongside free DLC for players on PC, consoles & mobile. With varying new card faces to choose from, such as Vault Boy from Fallout and Dead by Daylight's The Hillbilly, players can now decorate their cards with even more unique flair. While previously offering mostly an indie selection, the game's popularity has clearly seen more opportunity for the developers to include hit characters like Assassin's Creed's Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

This Is Just More Great News From The Balatro Developers

Balatro Just Got Reduced To PEGI 12

Coming off of the brilliant news that Balatro's PEGI rating has changed, more players than ever before can enjoy this fantastical deck-building roguelike. While it incorporates many elements of poker that saw it previously rated 18, the game is much more silly and playful at its core, encouraging players to use plentiful strange Joker cards to their advantage to win. Each run changes completely too, with players facing different bosses, picking up new cards, and encountering new oddities.

Despite seeming a little simplistic in the gameplay it offers, Balatrohas seen incredible success, breaking mass sales records with 5 million units sold. Through its redefinition of poker, this indie gem has quickly become a fan favorite for many, offering quick and addictive gameplay without any of the real toils of gambling. Now that both younger players can enjoy the title, and Xbox Game Pass gamers, there's no telling just how popular this title will continue to be.
