Hiker Discovers 1,000-Year-Old Pottery at Arizona Strip

The man reported the find to the Bureau of Land Management, whose archeologist dated it back to the Ancestral Puebloan period.

When a hiker discovered a small piece of old-looking pottery on the Arizona Strip last January, he did exactly as archeologists ask: carefully hid the piece in place and reported it to the Bureau of Land Management. A BLM archeologist found the piece and estimated it could be 1,000 years old and from the Ancestral Puebloan people.
