Hiker Pushes to Get Muir Hut in Kings Canyon NP National Historic Status

Several years ago, UC-Berkeley alum Doug Harnsberger noticed an Italian-style stone hut on Muir Pass along the Pacific Crest Trail, inside Kings Canyon National Park. Intrigued, he investigated until he found the blueprints for the structure, which was commissioned by the Sierra Club in 1930 to honor John Muir. Now, Harnsberger is pushing the National Park Service to recognize the hut as a National Historic Landmark.
