Hilarious But Accurate Baldur's Gate 3 Cosplay Sees Astarion Tackle The Laundromat
The weird, wonderful world of Baldur's Gate 3cosplay is vast and varied. Some cosplay is shockingly game-accurate, fooling fans into thinking they're looking at actual screenshots. Other cosplay takes its own liberties, but manages to capture familiar characters in new and refreshing ways.
And still other cosplay puts our favorite characters into completely foreign situations we never would've imagined them in, but manages to capture the essence of those characters so perfectly that we can't help but look on in awe. That's exactly what Reddit user Dat-Baka achieved with their recent cosplay photoshoot, in which they visited a laundromat dressed as Astarion after attending a convention. The photoshoot has garnered praise for its accuracy and creativity.
Astarion At The Laundromat Is The BG3 Cosplay We Didn't Know We Needed
But It's A Perfect Recreation
The shoot consists of five photos of Astarion in various situations around the laundromat: idly balancing a knife on his fingertips while he waits for the wash to finish, sticking his entire torso into the machine to retrieve a lost sock, glumly watching his clothes tumbling around a dryer, and finally, examining in dismay a still-bloodstained white shirt.
The cosplay is so stunningly accurate - not only to Astarion's visual appearance, but also to his personality, perfectly capturing his elvish haughtiness and ennui - that it's been widely praised by fans. One commenter, smeghead8806, suggested making it into a bigger series featuring Astarion performing mundane tasks - perhaps engaging in a little baking next.
But in truth, this isn't the first time Dat-Baka has done something similar with their Astarion cosplay. Previously, they shared photoshoots featuring Astarion engaging in other errands: shopping at a supermarket and filling his car up with gas. (They also cosplay other characters, too, like Goro Majima from the Yakuza series and Hwoarang from Tekken, but they seem to reserve these kinds of shoots for Astarion.)
These portrayals are equally amusing, painting Astarion as even more of a fish out of water than he normally is. Although unexpected, these cosplay scenarios are undeniably brilliant. The end result is that Astarion is a more relatable character than ever before, forced, like the rest of us, to navigate the brutal mundanity of modern life.
Our Take: Baldur's Gate 3 Cosplayers Are A Talented Bunch
BG3 Cosplayers Always Offer Something New
But whether they're in the laundromat or the woods, the grocery store or the market square, it seems like every Baldur's Gate 3 cosplayer has something unique to offer. Some use them to explore their own headcanons, like bringing rival characters like Shadowheart and Dame Aylin together. Others bring underrated characters to the forefront of our attention.
What all the best BG3 cosplay manages to do, though, is paint characters in a new and unexpected light. For all the various choices contained within its story, for all the ways characters can change and develop across the game, there are so many little details and unexplored avenues implied in the gamethat are rife for exploration in cosplay. These give the talented Baldur's Gate 3 cosplay community tons of material to work with.
