How Drolta Is Back In Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 After Being Killed By Alucard

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.

Drolta Tzuentes is back in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, even though she was apparently killed by Alucard at the end of season 1. In a world where vampires and night creatures exist, it can be difficult to keep track of Castlevania: Nocturne’s cast and whether certain characters are technically still alive. The Netflix animated series is set 300 years after Castlevania, with Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 picking up right where the previous season left off.

While Castlevania: Nocturne’s Erzsebet Báthory has been presented as the show’s main villain, the self-proclaimed Vampire Messiah was not the only threat faced by Richter Belmont. In fact, Erzsebet Báthory remained mostly in the shadows in season 1 as Drolta, her most loyal servant, made the necessary preparations for the return of the Goddess of War. However, Alucard effortlessly killed Drolta at the end of season 1, raising the question of how the villain could be back in season 2.

Drolta Was Brought Back As A Night Creature By The Abbot

Drolta Kept Her Memories And Consciousness

Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 continued to push the limits of what a Devil Forgemaster can do as Drolta, a vampire, was brought back as a night creature by the Abbot. Having been responsible for creating an army of night creatures for Erzsebet, the Abbot was tasked with bringing Drolta’s soul back from Hell. However, he was unsure about whether it could even be done. Although we followed two Forgemasters in the original Castlevania series, we had yet to see the process being done on a vampire.

Castlevania: Nocturne's Drolta is played by Elarica Johnson in the English dub.

While it is unclear how exactly the Forgemaster process works when it comes to turning a vampire into a night creature, the fact is that it worked. Drolta came back to the world of the living, this time as a vampire-night creature hybrid. Not only did Drolta look different and even more menacing, but she was also far more powerful than when she was just a vampire. Surprisingly, Drolta retained her consciousness, similar to what happened to Edouard. Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 further explored what night creatures actually are and how much of the original person they still resemble.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 Reveals Drolta Was The Real Threat

Erzsebet Báthory Was Just A Puppet

Drolta was the focus of Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. Not only did she come back from the dead as a vampire-night creature hybrid, but we learned a lot about her backstory in Ancient Egypt. Perhaps the biggest plot twist of the season was that Drolta is the one who reached out to Erzsebet Báthory and made her a vampire, not the other way around. Obsessed with bringing Sekhmet back, Drolta spent years looking for the right vessel that would be powerful enough to welcome the goddess of war.

While Erzsebet quickly embraced her role as a goddess, Drolta was the one pulling the strings the whole time. Castlevania: Nocturne season 2’s final battle confirmed that Drolta was the real threat, and while Alucard easily defeated her in season 1, things were a lot more difficult this time now that she was both a vampire and a night creature.
