How To Beat Ke Ke Ke Ke In Pokémon Go (February 2025)

The "Ke Ke Ke Ke" Team Rocket Grunt is back in Pokémon GO this February 2025, bringing a fresh lineup of Pocket Monsters for you to battle and counter with an assembled team targeting their weaknesses. You'll find this Grunt exclusively by interacting with PokeStops where they randomly spawn on the live map, challenging you to face off against their latest Pokémon team. Known for their signature laugh, “Ke...ke...ke...ke...ke...ke!", they're easy to spot compared to other Rocket members. While grunts rotate their team regularly, those like "Ke Ke Ke Ke" always stick to a specific theme of typed Pokémon.

Each time you face this Grunt, their team will consist of any of nine particular Pokémon from a single type, with three randomly selected to make up the team you'll battle. Given the variety of possible combinations from their roster of nine, it's crucial to prepare a broad range of counters to ensure you come out on top. Defeating the "Ke Ke Ke Ke" Grunt, much like taking down the Rocket Leaders like Sierra, will deliver some valuable rewards perfect for any Trainer on their Pokémon GO adventure.

Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt Team & Counters In Pokémon GO (February 2025)

Mainly Dark- and Ghost-Types

To defeat the "Ke Ke Ke Ke" Rocket Grunt in Pokémon GO this February, you'll need to prepare for their team of Ghost types, including Pokémon like Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. The best counters are Dark-type Pokémon such as Spiritomb, Darkrai, and Houndoom. While Ghost types can also hold their own if you're low on Dark types, it's better to stick with Dark, as Ghost Pokémon are weak against the same Ghost-type moves that Ke Ke Ke Ke’s team uses. If you manage to find and evolve a Zorua, Zoroark will make a fantastic, easy counter.

Pokémon like Darkrai are your best choice when facing Ke Ke Ke Ke, as their pure Dark typing grants them resistance to Ghost-type moves, making them tough to beat even when facing tougher bosses like bosses like Gigantamax Gengar. But don’t forget to consider the secondary typings of some of the Rocket Grunt’s Pokémon, as these come with extra exploitable weaknesses as well.

Whether you use Ghost- or Dark-type Pokémon, be sure to use moves of the same type to get the all-important 20% STAB, also known as a "same-type attack bonus".

For instance, Golett's additional Ground typing makes it vulnerable to Grass-type attacks, so powerful counters like Kartana can do some serious damage as well. Similarly, Alolan Marowak’s extra Fire typing makes it more vulnerable by also being weak to Rock-, Ground-, and Water-type moves. You can take advantage of this with strong counters like Rampardos, Kyogre, Excadrill, and Landorus.

Rewards For Beating Rocket Grunts In Pokémon GO

Stardust, Mysterious Component & More

A Mysterious Component given out as rewards for beating Team Rocket Grunts in Pokémon GO
Mysterious Component Rocket Grunt rewards Pokémon GO February 2025

Defeating any Team Rocket Grunt in Pokémon GO, including Ke Ke Ke Ke, rewards you with 500 Stardust, plus an encounter with the first Shadow Pokémon they used. With their current team, you’ll have a chance to catch a Shadow Gastly, Duskull, or Golett to add to your collection. You’ll also receive a Shadow Shard, which can be combined with three others to create a Purified Gem. This gem comes in handy when you’re tackling a Shadow Raid boss, as it helps to weaken them.

The most valuable prize, however, is the Mysterious Component. These are key if you're aiming to hunt down Rocket Leader bosses like Cliff or Giovanni. By collecting six of them and combining them, you can craft a Rocket Radar, which will point you straight to these much tougher opponents. While you normally have to hope you'll encounter them randomly, the Radar guarantees you'll find them by pointing you in the right direction. Just be sure to bring plenty of Dark-type Pokémon to counter Ke Ke Ke Ke's Ghost-types in Pokemon GO this month, and you’ll be all set for success.
