I'll Say This For Lucasfilm: The Andor Season 2 Trailer Was Worth The Wait
Andor season 2's trailer is finally here, and, despite the very long wait, I will give Lucasfilm the credit it deserves for delivering a fantastic teaser. As someone who still views Andor season 1 as the very best of Star Wars' TV shows, I have been waiting patiently for the trailer for season 2. Admittedly, the wait has been close to excruciating, especially given the overall lack of updates about Andor season 2 and the almost three-year gap between the two installments.
However, I could not have been happier to receive the news that Andor season 2's trailer had been released by Lucasfilm, finally offering a look into Tony Gilroy's conclusion for the show. From new looks at Andor's cast of characters to an emphasis on explosive, rebellious action, the trailer promises a thrilling end to the story that will have heavy ties to another of my favorite Star Wars projects, Rogue One. While the wait for Andor season 2 may have been lengthy, I cannot deny that Lucasfilm has released a fantastic trailer for my most anticipated Star Wars story in years.
Andor Season 2's Trailer Learned A Major Lesson From Skeleton Crew
Star Wars Can Be Different With Its Creative Choices
Immediately after clicking play on Andor season 2's trailer, the standout aspect was its music choice. Like Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's marketing, Andor season 2's trailer sounds distinctly un-Star Wars thanks to the usage of a real song rather than a musical composition. Andor season 2's trailer song is "The Revolution Starts Now" by Steve Earle which, given the show's focus on intense rebellion against fascistic regimes, is a perfect song choice. Steve Earle is known for his activism, making him more than a fitting musician to be attached to a story of Andor's tone and style.
I admit that the music choice was somewhat jarring at first, but it quickly became a perfect decision on Lucasfilm's part, for which I give the studio credit. I appreciate that Star Wars is not afraid to branch out and test things with marketing, be it Andor season 2's trailer or the 1980s-styled trailers for Skeleton Crew. Both instances show that Lucasfilm understands the story being told, linking it to an inherently connected style of music that adds a touch of flair and uniqueness that is different from the still-amazingorchestral music of a galaxy far, far away.
Andor Season 2 Promises Spectacle Like Never Before
Andor Remains Firmly In The Star Wars Wheelhouse
Andor season 2's trailer music will not be to everyone's taste, but I think any Star Wars fan will agree with me when I say the show is promising grand spectacle in this universe. Not only does the trailer showcase action-packed shots of the Rebel Alliance truly being born, but the sense of scale is mesmerizing. Andor season 1 captured this at various points, be it the heist on Aldhani or the prison escape from Narkina-5. As it turns out, Andor season 2 is following suit by only increasing the spectacle and the Star Wars iconography.
The shots of X-Wings taking off from Yavin IV look excellent...
One such shot in Andor season 2's trailer shows the returning Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic standing in front of the almost-completed Death Star. The scale of the space station is immense, with the same being the case on the Rebellion's side. The shots of X-Wings taking off from Yavin IV look excellent, proving that Tony Gilroy and his team are providing war on a scale that makes Andor the best-looking Star Wars show, and this is without mentioning the sweeping visuals of Imperial hangers or wing-mounted pilot shots.
The Focus Is On An Action-Packed Rebellion Story
The Rebellion Is Forming
The final element that stood out to me from Andor season 2's trailer is just how action-packed it looked. One of the main advantages of Andor was that it somewhat broke the mold regarding Star Wars norms in that it featured long, extended scenes - sometimes even entire episodes - of characters talking with one another. Of course, this is not to say Andor did not have its action-packed moments, but it was in the quieter, dialog-driven moments that the show differentiated itself from other projects in a galaxy far, far away.
Andor season 2 is sure to continue this, but Lucasfilm has teased that there will be more action this time around. This was to be expected with Andor being fully recruited by Luthen Rael, with the trailer highlighting just how action-packed the story of the Rebel Alliance's origin will be. Explosions, gunfights, dogfights, and ambushes galore are promised in Andorseason 2's trailer, firmly fitting the insistence that the revolution starts now.
