I’m Even More Excited About 1 Returning Daredevil: Born Again Villain’s Story After New MCU Comments

New comments from one returning MCU actor have made me even more excited about one villain's storyline in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. I can't wait for Daredevil: Born Again to kick off in March 2025, officially continuing the storyline of Marvel Television's beloved Daredevil series that ran for three seasons on Netflix between 2015 and 2018 as part of the Defenders Saga. Now integrated into the MCU's official continuity, Daredevil: Born Again will pick up several years after the previous series ended, and will introduce some huge changes for its returning Daredevil characters.

At the core of Daredevil: Born Again will, of course, be the long-running feud between Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, Daredevil, and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, Kingpin, who will become the Mayor of New York City in the Phase 5 series. Fisk's new position of political power and influence throws his criminal underworld career into uncertainty, but a new reveal suggests another returning villain has stepped in to take his place. I can't wait to see this story evolve in Daredevil: Born Again, though this reveal has made me worried about the fate of Ayelet Zurer's Vanessa Fisk.

Vanessa Fisk Took On Some Of Kingpin’s Operations After Daredevil Season 3

Wilson Fisk Married Vanessa In Daredevil Season 3's Finale

During a recent interview with Business Insider, Ayelet Zurer revealed more about her returning role in Daredevil: Born Again. Vanessa Fisk was originally recast for Sandrine Holt, but Zurer was confirmed to be returning after Marvel's massive creative overhaul following 2023's Hollywood strikes. Zurer has now noted that, while Wilson Fisk was "gone," Vanessa actually stepped up to assume control of his criminal empire. I can anticipate this causing some huge problems for Wilson and Vanessa in Daredevil: Born Again, which is very exciting.

Since [Wilson Fisk] was gone, she took over a little bit, and it's very hard to pull away from that. So some things are not sitting well, and they have to deal with that... Things changed in their relationship. We come in after a gap of time where they also haven't been together. I won't say too much about that. But when they return, they are the very strange lovers that they are... [They] start from mistrust and go back to trust, which is their core essence.

The exact details of Ayelet Zurer's comments are yet to be explained. She suggests Wilson Fisk was "gone," which could refer to him being imprisoned in Daredevil season 3's finale, or perhaps even being snapped away by Thanos for five years. Vanessa and Wilson have spent time apart before, including for the entirety of Daredevil season 2, so exploring this dynamic again now that they're officially married and Vanessa has more power will be interesting. I also reckon this will expand on one of my favorite Daredevil season 3 moments, which I'm thrilled about.

Daredevil: Born Again Will Continue Vanessa’s Villain Storyline From Daredevil Season 3

Vanessa Truly Became A Villain In Daredevil Season 3

Ayelet Zurer's new comments make me think that Daredevil: Born Again will be further exploring one of her best Daredevil storylines, that being her own descent into villainy. Vanessa was introduced in Daredevil season 1 as a classy, elegant and innocent art dealer and curator at the Scene Contempo Gallery, where she first met Wilson Fisk and sold him "Rabbit in a Snowstorm." She soon became embroiled in Fisk's criminal operations, but Daredevil season 3 saw her make the call to have FBI Special Agent Ray Nadeem murdered, completing her evolution into a bona fide villain.

I am very happy that this storyline will continue in Daredevil: Born Again, as Vanessa will have seemingly taken control of Kingpin's empire in his absence, fully becoming a new villain in the MCU. While Wilson Fisk is physically powerful and hugely influential, Vanessa Fisk's quiet and subtle darkness makes her, in some ways, even more terrifying, as she is completely unassuming. I can't wait to see what dynamic this transformation for Vanessa brings to her relationship with Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again, but I have a feeling it could spell trouble.

After Ayelet Zurer’s New Comments, I Think Vanessa Could Be In Trouble In Daredevil: Born Again

The very top of a criminal empire is an incredibly dangerous place to be, and since Ayelet Zurer suggests this is exactly where we find Vanessa Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again, I'm increasingly nervous about her fate in the Phase 5 series. While she could, of course, be targeted by any number of antagonists coming for Wilson Fisk's legacy or power, there's also one more surprising character who could come after Vanessa. If she is unwilling to relinquish her new power, Wilson Fisk himself might put his own wife on the chopping block.

Ayelet Zurer previously appeared in eleven episodes of Marvel Television's Daredevil in seasons 1 and 3. Season 3 ended with her marrying Wilson Fisk at the Presidential Hotel, but then being separated from her new husband as he was imprisoned.

Kingpin has been proven to find it incredibly difficult to give up control, even to his own wife, as he doubts Vanessa's decision to have Ray Nadeem killed in Daredevil season 3. This could bring the pair at odds in Daredevil: Born Again, especially if it turns out that Vanessa is the true villain, and Wilson Fisk's power pales in comparison. Despite his new political goals, Kingpin will surely find it hard to tear himself away from his criminal background, and I can't wait to see how these intense and exhilarating storylines play out in the MCU's Phase 5.
