I’ve Rewatched This Power Rangers Episode More Times Than I Can Count, And It Somehow Never Gets Old

There are 973 Power Rangers episodes across all shows, and while I’ve watched every season more than once, there is a certain episode I keep going back to. While my first contact with Power Rangers was the original show and the 1995 Mighty Morphin movie, the last of which I would rewatch all the time, the early 2000s were when I truly embraced the franchise. Some of my favorite Power Rangers episodes and seasons come from that era, a period that saw the show take bigger risks and break out of the Mighty Morphin formula.

One thing that was arguably disappointing about the post-Zordon Era is how disconnected each show felt from the rest of the franchise, which was a conscious decision. The Power Rangers universe would now consist of standalone seasons rather than one extended story as it had been during the Mighty Morphin days. That said, we still had crossover episodes, one of which was the pitch-perfect “Forever Red.”

“Forever Red” Is Still My Favorite Power Rangers Episode Over 20 Years Later

Every Red Ranger (Except For Rocky) Showed Up

Wild Force is not my favorite Power Rangers season, but it includes my favorite episode of the whole show – “Forever Red.” Although we were used to team-up episodes in Power Rangers by that point, “Forever Red” was unlike any of the previous crossovers. Rather than two teams working together against a returning enemy, “Forever Red” brought back Red Rangers from all previous Power Rangers shows in what is, to this day, the most ambitious crossover event in the franchise. Not even “The Legendary Battle” could live up to “Forever Red.”

What I like about “Forever Red” is how every Red Ranger is written just like they used to be in their respective shows. From Tommy and Andros to Carter and Wes, none of the Rangers involved in this crossover feel like parodies of themselves. Rather than just action figures thrown into the battlefield, “Forever Red” comes off as a proper crossover where different corners of the franchise are colliding. However, the episode also delivered on nostalgia and fanservice. Hearing all the Red Rangers morph one after the other still gives me goosebumps.

I Can’t Think Of Another Crossover That Got Me As Hyped As “Forever Red”

“Forever Red” Is A Textbook Crossover Episode

As someone who grew up on superhero cartoons and cherished whenever Batman appeared in Superman: The Animated Series or the X-Men showed up in Spider-Man, no crossover episode from my other favorite franchises ever made me as excited as “Forever Red” did. I had been watching Power Rangers for as long as I could remember, with every new season marking a different chapter of my life. This is why seeing every single Red Ranger I knew joining forces in a new episode of Wild Force was so special to me.

The most famous Power Rangers seasons were released in the 1990s and early 2000s, but some of these series have aged much better than others.

While I remember watching “Forever Red” on TV, I rewatched that episode countless other times thanks to the Best Of Power Rangers: The Ultimate Ranger DVD compilation from 2003. With the official Power Rangers YouTube channel having “Forever Red” available to stream for free, I still found myself revisiting it every so often. Team-ups are inherently fun, from the Avengers assembling for the first time to the three Spider-Men working together in No Way Home, but “Forever Red” will always have a place in my heart as my favorite crossover event.
