If Love Is Blind Doesn't Fix These Casting Mistakes I'm Positive The Show Is Doomed (Season 8 Has Been A Letdown)
Love Is Blindseason 8 has been disappointing, and I think if the show doesn’t fix the major mistakes they’ve made in the casting process, I’m positive the show is doomed for good. While I’m not sure that Love Is Blind season 8 could ever be the end of the series because of its popularity, the show has changed in a way I don’t like, and I think it has everything to do with the casting. Working in the same formula as other reality TV dating juggernaut Married At First Sight, Love Is Blind casts their seasons in geographical areas.
Though the show still has casting parameters, using a questionnaire to vet potential applicants before moving into a more in-depth casting process, Love Is Blind’s casting conundrums often create difficult seasons. While there are always interesting and heartwarming stories on the show, there are also typically equally difficult stories that make it clear some of the cast members weren’t necessarily ready for a major relationship commitment. Despite being vetted by casting directors, I feel a lot of the Love Is Blind cast members aren’t looking for serious relationships, but instead are hoping to use the show as a stepping stone.
Moving forward, the show needs to focus more on genuine singles.
Love Is Blind Season 8 Has Been Lackluster
This Season Hasn’t Had Riveting Drama
Although Love Is Blind season 8 hasn’t finished up yet, there’s already been enough episodes for me to understand that I’m not happy with the way it’s going. Throughout the pod phase, which lasted for an agonizing six episodes, we were faced with some of the most mundane drama that the show has ever seen. While the pods have always been a fun convention, it’s hard to watch the same conversations over and over in the best of circumstances, and Love Is Blind season 8 isn’t the best of circumstances by a mile. With rinse-and-repeat stories, the pods were rough.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
While I did find myself invested in a few stories, the majority of the couples who matched in the pods weren’t as interesting as I’d come to expect. As they played out the same dramas we’ve seen in the past seasons of Love Is Blind, I couldn’t help but wonder if the current pod squad was poorly chosen, or if the premise of the series has simply run its course. Without much interest in which women are competing over which guy in the pods, and which couples are struggling on the outside, I’ve found the drama overall to be boring.
Love Is Blind Needs To Stop Casting Clout Chasers
There Are Too Many Fame Hungry Cast Members
While nearly every season of Love Is Blindaside from its first and second have had a few notable clout chasers, things have been getting worse in recent seasons. There are times when I don't mind a clout chaser on reality TV, but reality TV dating is such a specific world that it doesn't allow for that level of disingenuous behavior. Love Is Blind season 8 has had some of the most outward clout chasers that the series has ever seen, and I was surprised that a few of them got cast on the show at all, especially in Minneapolis.
At the very beginning of the season, many of the cast members spoke about the size of Minneapolis and the way dating can be difficult, making it clear that they were looking for something deep and rooted rather than a flash in the pan. After watching them interact, however, it became clear that many of the Love Is Blind season 8 pod squad were simply looking for reality TV exposure. Some who made it past the pods, like Ben Mezzenga, have been accused of being clout chasers all along. Moving forward, the show needs to focus more on genuinesingles.
Love Is Blind Needs To Vet Their Casts Better
They Need Firmer Casting Parameters
Love Is Blind needs to begin casting singles who are genuinely looking for love and marriage from the show’s experience rather than reality TV exposure. While some cast members likely say they’d be okay with falling in love and getting married, it seems like people are being cast for the wrong reasons. I’m wondering if some Love Is Blind cast members simply say they would commit to the right person if they found them on the show, saying what they need to say to get on the air. Once they’re there, they may realize they're not ready to get married.
While Love Is Blind may seem like a great experience and give singles the opportunity to find someone they care for, it often winds up serving as a way for new reality TV stars to find a platform. I’d love to see more Love Is Blind, and more authentic Love Is Blind at that. Moving forward, the casting team needs to vet their cast a bit more thoroughly from season to season. With more psychological preparation, more interviews, and engagement before the singles are cast for the show, it would be easier to note if the cast members are genuine.
Love Is Blind Needs To Include More Engaged Couples After The Pods
They’re Too Selective About The Connections They Show
While Love Is Blind season 8 has featured several couples who came out of the pods engaged, there’s at least one couple who got engaged on the show and then wasn’t featured on the series. Love Is Blind has done this in the past, and while I understand their reasoning behind it at times, it’s a strange practice. There’s typically at least one couple each season who isn’t featured on screen but winds up getting engaged or makes it to the altar. Sometimes, Love Is Blind does this because they don’t have enough time, but others have been more sinister.
Some Love Is Blind couples who don’t wind up making it onto the show have come forward after the fact and explained their relationships were more tumultuous, like Renee Poche and Carter Wall from season 5. Renee shared that her relationship with Carter was difficult, and because of that, Love Is Blind chose not to air their content. This season, Kylie Schuelke and Brian Sumption along with another unnamed couple were engaged during Love Is Blind season 8, but haven’t been featured at all. Not showing every couple is difficult for viewers to wrap their heads around, regardless of circumstances.
Love Is Blind streams on Netflix each Friday until its finale on Friday, March 7 & reunion on Sunday, March 9.
