One fan has created an amazingly detailed Metroid cosplay that took over two years to make. Despite being over 38 years old, the Metroid series still holds a special place in many fans' hearts. The series is going strong nearly four decades later, inspiring fans with its story, character development, and, of course, awesome exosuit.

Reddit user Alone_Ad1566 has expertly recreated Samus Aran's famous suit in stunning detail. The cosplay's creator shared several more photos on their Instagram where they go by king_johnnyviii. The photos show the cosplayer attending a gaming event in Cleveland, where they pose with fans and other cosplayers. The costume is a labor of love and time, as according to the cosplayer, all the costume parts took "over 2 years to 3-D print."

The cosplayer chose to recreate the most iconic suit from the Metroid series, the Varia Suit. First introduced in Metroid II: Return Of Samus,the Varia Suit's design builds on the original Power Suit, keeping many of its original elements. The suit is easy to recognize thanks to the large circular shoulder pads, which contribute to the defined silhouette of the suit.

The cosplay recreates this suit in detail, down to the distinct shape of the suit and Samus' Arm Cannon. The costume also represents the game's colors accurately, but with a weathered effect that keeps the suit shiny but looking used. A reflective faceplate completes the look, bringing a blue and yellow glow to every photo as the event's lights shine back at the camera.

King_johnnyviii includes a quote from Samus on their Instagram post: "“I may not always like where it leads me, but like any story, the past needs resolution.” This quote seems appropriate, as Samus' story is far from over. After the success of 2021's Metroid Dread,Samus's adventure is set to continue in 2025 with the release of Metroid 4: Beyond. The title will send Samus on a new mission full of perils, though the main character looks like she'll continue sporting the iconic Varia suit.

The upcoming title was announced way back in 2019, but a release window of 2025 was officially revealed during a Nintendo Direct in July 2024, with the official trailer uploaded to the Nintendo of America YouTube channel. Many speculate that the upcoming title will be a day-one release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, which has also been announced for a 2025 release.
