Indore Doctor robbed of cash, phone on pretext of treatment

Indore: A doctor was reportedly robbed of his cash and mobile phone by a man and his accomplices whom he had initially connected with through an application. The incident took place late Monday night in the Dwarkapuri area, raising concerns about safety in the region.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Khatiwala Tank and a practitioner with a clinic in the Chandan Nagar area. He alleged that he was lured to an isolated location by the main suspect under the pretext that the man's mother required urgent medical attention, reports the Times of India. The police are investigating the doctor’s account of events and have not yet verified his claims.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rishikesh Meena stated that the incident occurred in the Dwarkapuri locality on Monday night. According to the Dwarkapuri police, the victim’s encounter with the suspect quickly turned into a robbery when the man, along with his accomplices, forced the doctor to hand over his money and mobile phone. The police have launched an investigation and are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.

“He said that he had downloaded an application through which the accused Harsh alias Bhaiyyu, son of Lokendra Bhanwar, 22, resident of Sai Baba Nagar contacted him and they agreed to meet at a spot. From here, the accused took him to a secluded spot where he was looted,” said DCP Meena told the Daily. “The accused are being interrogated and the doctor’s degree and credentials are also being checked,” said Meena.

Doctors falling victim to robbery cases are becoming more and more frequent in the country. A few months back, a doctor posted at a private hospital in Coimbatore was robbed of Rs 70,000 at sickle point by two unidentified men at Codissia ground near SITRA. According to the police, the doctor was held captive under the weapon and was forced to withdraw Rs 50,000 with his debit card from an ATM and make an online transfer of Rs 20,000 to them.
