Invincible Just Found The Best Way To Fix Its Shrinking Rae Problem After She Survived Her Comic Death Scene
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episode 6 and the comics!
Amazon Prime Video's Invincible made a big change by having Shrinking Rae survive her comic death scene, and while this has created a major problem, Invincible season 3, episode 6 just found the best way to fix it. Amazon Prime Video's Invincible has been shockingly accurate to the Invincible comics, and while there have been some minor omissions and additions, it has stuck pretty close to the source material throughout its three seasons. However, its handling of Shrinking Rae has been one of the show's biggest changes, but these Invincible changes may have found a way to stop.
Shrinking Rae is one of the many members of the Guardians of the Globe, with the world of Invincible being packed full of superheroes that are ultimately inconsequential to the overarching story. Shrinking Rae's counterpart in the Invincible comics is one of these, with the character being a man named Shrinking Ray in the source material. Shrinking Ray doesn't do much in the comics, with him dying during the Lizard League invasion of the missile base. However, Invincible's Shrinking Rae survived this fight, with her going on to have a romance with Rex Splode in Invincible season 3.
Shrinking Rae May Be Retiring From The Guardians Of The Globe
After Season 3, Episode 6
Shrinking Rae has gotten a few new storylines in Invincible season 3, as by this point in the story, her comic book counterpart is dead. However, these new stories may not last much longer. Invincible season 3, episode 6 takes a wild turn, with Shrinking Rae telling Rex that she wants to retire from the Guardians of the Globe. While she will still keep her powers, Rae seems to be tired of the superhero life, with her wanting to leave the team and move on.

Invincible Season 3 Has Finally Stopped Ignoring Season 2's Best New Hero
Invincible season 2 introduced one of the show's best superheroes, but after being sidelined in season 3, episode 6 finally gave them the spotlight.
Upon hearing this news, Rex pushes back against this. Rex fears being nothing more than a normal person, as his identity has been wrapped up in his superhero life ever since he was a kid. Rae's potential retirement from the Guardians of the Globe threatens not only her superhero life, but also her newly-formed relationship with Rex. Her superhero team membership and relationship with Rex are the only things that tie her to the main story of Invincible. This means that, if Rae truly does retire from the Guardians, then she may also be retired from the show.
Shrinking Rae's Retirement Fixes Her Big Comic Book Death Change
She Won't Have To Be In Any New Stories
Although Shrinking Rae's Guardians of the Globe retirement may be sad for fans of the character, it also fixes Invincible's big problem with her comic book death change. Since Shrinking Rae survived the Lizard League's attack, Invincible season 3 has had to figure out new things to do with the character. The show has added new storylines for her, such as her relationship with Rex, as well as adding her to stories that she isn't part of in the comics, such as some of the Guardians of the Globe missions.
However, if Rae does retire, then the Invincible show won't have to worry about finding things for Rae to do anymore. Rae's retirement means that she probably won't appear in the show all that often. From a writing perspective, this means that she is as good as dead, as it doesn't really matter what she is up to. For as long as Rae is a member of the Guardians of the Globe, she will have to be part of the Guardians' storylines. However, if she does quit the team in a future episode, then her time in the Invincible show can end.
How Shrinking Rae's Guardians Retirement Changes Her Rex Romance Storyline
Will He Choose Her Or The Guardians?
Having Shrinking Rae retire from the Guardians not only changes her storyline, but Rex's as well. Rex's relationship with Rae has been the main focus of his story in season 3, with it helping to keep Rex Splode's redemption arc rolling. Rex will now have to choose between his relationship and his life as a superhero, which will be an interesting choice to see the character make.

I Refuse To Believe This Invincible Character's Secret Identity Is Actually Still Secret
Many Invincible heroes go out of their way to protect their identity, but one character has somehow remained anonymous despite their lack of subtlety.
Based on the Invincible comics, however, Rex won't have much time to make it. As readers know, Rex Splode dies in the Invincible War storyline, with him sacraficing himself to take down an alternate version of Mark. Since Angstrom Levy and the evil Mark Graysons were teased in the post-credits scene of Invincible season 3, episode 6, it is likely that this storyline will occur in Invincible season 3, episode 7.
