Is Dublin Murders Season 2 Happening? Everything We Know
Dublin Murders season 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2019 crime drama, but little has been said about what's next for the series. There is a long list of British crime dramas that most American audiences have never heard of, but they're all worth the time if viewers can find them. Dublin Murders is right in line with similar British crime dramas and is based on the Dublin Murder Squad books by American-Irish writer, Tana French. The series began in October 2019 and ran for 8 episodes, first on BBC One, and later available on Starz.
Starring Killian Scott as Rob Reilly and Sarah Greene as Cassie Maddox, Dublin Murders follows the two Garda detectives of the Dublin Murder Squad at the turn of the 21st century. Maddox and Reilly are put in charge of a gruesome murder case involving a young ballerina found ritualistically murdered in the woods. When more bodies start turning up, the detectives realize their case may be bigger than they could have imagined. It's been years since that first season, and fans are wondering if the British murder mystery will be back for season 2.
Dublin Murders Season 2 Is Not Confirmed
The Showrunner Would Like The Show To Go On
At the moment, Dublin Murders season 2 is not confirmed. Back when season 1 was ending, there was some talk about the show returning for season 2. In January 2020, Dublin Murders wrapped up its first season and Starz president and CEO, Jeffrey Hirsch said (via Deadline),
"The audience grew from the beginning to the end of the series, which for us is always a great indicator of success. We're currently in talks about more seasons. There's a couple more books that we're looking at right now, we're trying to figure out what that looks like right now. We'll hopefully continue to have good conversations."
Around the same time, Dublin Murders' writer and showrunner Sarah Phelps said she was excited to get back to the series for season 2 (via DigitalSpy),
"Yes, I do know where it could go. We're talking about a second season. I’m going off to Galway really early tomorrow to start doing the research. So fingers crossed it comes off."
It's strange that both Starz and the showrunner were interested in returning to the series after season 1, and yet since early 2020, there has been no word about Dublin Murders season 2.
Dublin Murders Season 2 Cast
Some Of The Main Cast Could Return
There have been no official cast announcements for Dublin Murders season 2, seeing as there have been no announcements, but the show's star Killian Scott responded when asked if he would return for season 2 (via Metro),
"I'd come back!"
Sarah Greene also said she would like to return for season 2 (via Stylist),
"I would adore the chance to go back – but ask Sarah Phelps, it’s up to her!"
Beyond that, fans can only speculate on who would be likely to return. Dublin Murders Season 2 Story Details
More Books In The Series Could Be Adapted
No story details for Dublin Murders season 2 have been revealed yet but, the end of season 1 and the novels could hint at what's to come. Season 1 combines the story from the first two of French's novels, so there is precedent for the next season to be about the next two books in the series, Faithful Place from 2010 and Broken Harbour from 2012. Those two books feature undercover boss Frank Mackey as a central figure, so season 2 could be more about his underhanded dealings.
The case is solved at the end of Dublin Murders season 1, but there are still some loose threads that Dublin Murders season 2 could explore. Cassie has vowed she will never see Rob again, and their contentious relationship could be a major storyline in season 2. There are a few different directions that Dublin Murders season 2 could go in, but someone is going to need to confirm it first.
