"It's Overdue": There Has Never Been a Better Time For a Superman Renaissance

Superman is not only DC's greatest hero but also one of the most iconic figures in pop culture. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, he has been a cornerstone of DC Comics for over 80 years. Now, with the Summer of Superman fast approaching, fans are about to see more of the Man of Steel than ever before, kicking off what promises to be an epic renaissance for the character.

Even comic creators like Tim Seeley have touched on the significance of Superman as a symbol of hope in today’s world and deserving of a renaissance.

Though one of the most iconic and beloved comic characters, Superman has often been overlooked. His counterpart, Batman, has received far more adaptations in films, shows, and video games, and even in comic series, Batman boasts more titles than The Man of Steel. But now, with the release of the new James Gunn movie in July 2025, it’s time for Superman to shine once again.

This will not only be the first feature film in the new DCU but also deliver the Superman fans have been craving. Additionally, the movie coincides with new Man of Steel-focused comic titles hitting the shelves and classic comics being revisited in anticipation of the film’s release.

Superman is BOOMING Thanks to New TV Series, Movies, and Comics!

My Adventures With Superman, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, Absolute Superman, and More Add to the New Superman Hype

While 2025 is set to be a massive year for The Man of Steel, fans have been eager for Superman to experience a renaissance for some time. A glimpse of this revival came with My Adventures With Superman, which debuted its first season in 2023, featuring a younger version of Clark Kent. Seasons 1 and 2 were so well received, that it earned itself a Season 3 and comic series. The show maintains an optimistic tone, embracing the fun of the character while keeping him as a champion for the oppressed and a symbol of hope.

Even comic creators like Tim Seeley have touched on the significance of Superman as a symbol of hope in today’s world. "I think it's easy to write Superman now," Seeley said on Reddit, "but it's the readers who have to believe someone can be powerful, and not terrible. Personally, I think Superman is due for a big moment in American culture." It’s clear that both fans and creators agree there's no better time for Superman's virtuous character to rise again. This is exemplified in works like Absolute Superman by Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval, which, despite being set in a darker alternate universe, still preserves the heart of the character.

Furthermore, Superman with Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story captured the heart of Superman. This critically acclaimed documentary, which recently won a BAFTA, tells the story of Christopher Reeve, the actor who portrayed Superman for years. After a tragic accident that left him paralyzed, Reeve became an activist for disability rights, living up to the standards of the hero he once played. The groundwork for Superman’s renaissance has been laid, and it’s all coming to a head with The Summer of Superman, which will set the stage for multiple Super-Family-centric series.
