Nobody else in the world is called 'Blue Ivy' (or maybe two or three people named after this person). Plenty of people, on the other hand, are called 'Carter,' so saying the surname alone would have merited more specificity. For that reason, I am not open to the argument that 'usually the last name is given.' It strikes me as an appeal to 'that's just how things are done!,' which isn't very convincing."

I was just as baffled as everyone else when Ken asked Mike for Blue Ivy's last name. Mike even gave a slight chuckle after he added Carter to his answer, showing that he also must've thought that Ken's request was strange. It's interesting to think about what would've happened if Mike didn't know or couldn't think of Blue Ivy's last name when his answer was correct. It wasn't as though he gave a common name as an answer. However, even then, since the question was asking for Beyoncé's daughter's name, it would've seemed unnecessary to give a last name.

Thankfully, Mike knew the whole answer that Ken was looking for, and this minor incident didn't affect his game. I do agree, though, with the fan who stated that it seems as though the show was just trying to do things the way that they've always been done because, in this case, it was unnecessary. Blue Ivy is clearly Beyoncé's daughter, and Mike's original answer was perfectly acceptable.
