Jurassic World Rebirth's New Dinosaurs Prove How Different The Original Jurassic Park Could Have Been

The dinosaurs seen in Jurassic World Rebirth are evidence of just how much darker Jurassic Park’s story could have been. By Jurassic Park’s ending, a surprisingly high number of supporting characters are dead. Although the main characters do emerge unscathed, the major villain, Dennis Nedry, and a lot of likable supporting stars die during the blockbuster’s brisk story. Michael Crichton’s original novel Jurassic Park is even darker, with John Hammond himself meeting a gruesome fate in its bleaker story.

The franchise reboot Jurassic World Rebirth looks set to give viewers an idea of just how much darker the series could have gotten if its story had panned out a little differently. Arriving in July 2025, Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as the covert operations specialist Zora Bennett. Sent to retrieve the DNA of the few dinosaurs that have survived in the years since Jurassic World Dominion’s ending, Zora finds her mission complicated when she comes across a vacationing family stranded in dinosaur-infested waters.

Jurassic World Rebirth's Story Reveals Other Dinosaurs That Could Have Been In Jurassic Park

Jurassic World Rebirth’s Dinosaurs Include Rejects From The Original Movie

Many of the dinosaurs seen in Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer didn’t appear in Jurassic Park, and there is a good reason for that. According to producer Frank Marshall in an interview with Vanity Fair, the island that Jurassic World Rebirth is set on is home to the genetic mistakes that resulted from InGen’s earlier attempts to populate Jurassic Park. The trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth boasts the return of many crowd-pleasing dinosaurs seen in earlier franchise installments, including T. rex, the Quetzalcoatlus, the raptors, and the Mosasaurus.

These dinosaurs were created before Jurassic Park took place, meaning they could have been roaming around the original movie's titular theme park.

However, the hybrid dinosaur from Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer proves that the island’s inhabitants don’t stop there. There is also Titanosaurus seen in the teaser, which didn’t appear in any earlier franchise installments, as well as the first appearance by the Spinosaurus since Jurassic Park III. Judging by the reboot’s premise, these dinosaurs were created before Jurassic Park took place, meaning they could have been roaming around the original movie's version of the titular theme park if they turned out right.

Jurassic World Rebirth's New Dinosaurs Would Have Made Jurassic Park More Dangerous

Jurassic Park’s Setting Wasn’t As Lethal As The Reboot’s Uninhabited Island

Clearly, the characters from Jurassic Park were lucky. The dinosaurs seen in Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer seem like they will be more lethal than anything found in earlier franchise installments thanks to their size, their ferocity, and the unpredictable element of their failed genetic engineering. The hybrid from Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer could be more vicious or powerful than ordinary dinosaurs due to this engineering, and it seems to be the case in the promotional materials.

While it was tough for the heroes of Jurassic Park to escape the park’s dinosaurs, the characters at least only had fully developed dinosaurs to contend with as they made their dash for freedom. Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer introduces genetic hybrids, new species of dinosaurs, and massive monsters that have never appeared in the series before, meaning the heroes will be in more trouble than ever in this reboot. As such, Jurassic World Rebirth looks like a darker spin on Jurassic Park’s original story.
