What Netflix's 2025 Release Schedule Means For The Streamer
Breaking Down Their Film Slate For This Year
Netflix has an extensive film slate lined up for 2025, which they have already kicked off with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz's action-comedy Back in Action. Audiences can expect similar genre fare for the early part of the year and into the summer. This includes Havoc, an action-thriller starring Tom Hardy, in spring 2025, and The Old Guard 2, featuring the return of Charlize Theron, whichis set for the summer. Netflix's genre fare will continue into the latter part of the year with The Woman in Cabin 10, a thriller starring Keira Knightley, set for fall 2025.
However, the latter part of the year will see some of Netflix's most anticipated titles of 2025 – Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which are also expected to be awards season contenders. Guillermo del Toro has won three Oscars over his career, and Rian Johnson received nominations for writing the first two Knives Out movies. The streamer is also strategically releasing Kathryn Bigelow and Noah Baumbach's new movies during awards season, the former being a two-time Oscar winner and the latter being a four-time nominee.
Our Take On Netflix's 2025 Release Schedule
It's A Mixed Bag
Netflix's 2025 film slate offers a wide range of options, from action-thrillers to prestige dramas. While the streamer's genre fare is typically underwhelming, they do have some anticipated 2025 movies from exciting filmmakers – such as Rian Johnson, Guillermo del Toro, Noah Baumbach, and Kathryn Bigelow – lined up for the latter part of the year. In turn, Netflix subscribers may have to suffer through the early part of 2025 to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
