Landman's Controversial Scenes Look Set To Become Even Worse In The Season 1 Finale

Landmanseason 1 has received divisive responses for some of its most provocative scenes, and the finale will pile on to that with some of the worst yet. Michelle Randolph plays Ainsley Norris, Tommy's daughter, in Landman's cast, and her character has been critiqued throughout the season for being overtly sexualized as a teenager. Ainsley is only seventeen, yet she takes after her mother, Angela, in being outwardly vocal about her desires for men, even around her uncomfortable father.

Regardless of what the viewer thinks about this portion of Landman, it's undoubtedly a significant portion of the series that can often deter from the central narrative. Knowing Taylor Sheridan's previous shows, one can imagine that there's going to be some arc for Ainsley that connects her more to what's happening with Tommy, but the series has yet to reveal its hand there. Landman's episode 9 ending seems to indicate she could be a target for the Cartel in the finale, but not before another event that will tap into the spiciness many viewers have been dreading.

Ainsley's Plan For Ryder At The Strip Club Will Make Landman's Scenes Even Weirder

Ryder Is Going To Be Overly-Sexualized In The Finale

Recent Landman episodes have seen Angela take an interest in helping out at an old folks' home, wanting to bring joy to the lives of those she believes have been forgotten about. Because many of the folks at the home have expressed their desires for one last sexual experience, Angela has booked them time at a strip club. However, the strip club doesn't offer male strippers, so Ainsley requested that Ryder show up to help out with the women among the elderly.

It's a funny plot, in a way, that Ryder, a character who's been primarily played off for laughs, is used in such a manner. However, he's still seventeen years old, making this prospect pretty uncomfortable to look at. Of course, the actor is older, but if the character is meant to be a teenager, then the scene is bound to be controversial. Again, it will vary based on the viewer, but it's just weird to have such divisive scenes for something that doesn't offer much narrative or artistic value to the show.

Landman Needs To Do More With Ainsley's Story

Ainsley Has Potential To Be A Much Stronger Character

Michelle Randolph is a terrific young star, as shown by 1923. It's no secret that she's been underutilized on Landman, so hopefully, Taylor Sheridan is planning something more fulfilling for her character in the finale or at least for season 2. The early episodes of the season saw more heart-to-heart scenes between her and Tommy that suggested potential for her future, so it would be terrific to see her develop into a stronger character and ally for Tommy in his new CEO position.
