Burlington Island, a 396-acre spot on the Delaware River across from Burlington City, New Jersey, has a 100-acre lake, wildlife, history, and the potential to become a public nature refuge, argue local supporters. The site has been closed to the public since 2012, and it also faces a proposal from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dump river dredge spoils.
