Longlegs Director’s Second 2025 Horror Movie Teased By Star Following The Monkey Post-Credits Sneak Peek

Tatiana Maslany teases Osgood Perkins' upcoming film Keeper. Perkins directed the recent horror movie The Monkey, which was based on the Stephen King short story of the same name. Maslany plays Lois Shelburn in the movie, the mother to twin leads Hal and Bill. The Monkey has received largely positive reviews upon release, getting a 79% Tomatometer. Screen Rant's Mae Abdulbaki gave the movie 6 out of 10 stars, praising the movie's humor and creative kills. A post-credits sequence from The Monkey included a look at Perkins' upcoming film Keeper.

Speaking with Collider, Maslany teases Perkins' plans for his upcoming movie, Keeper. According to the actor, audiences will find that Keeper is in an entirely "different world" than The Monkey. She goes on to praise the director and his commitment to different stories, saying that Perkins "doesn't sit in either of those places," ostensibly referring to the worlds he recently crafted with Longlegs and The Monkey. Check out the full quote from Maslany below:

It’s in its own little world.

That’s what’s great about Oz is that it doesn’t sit anywhere in either of those places. I’m so excited about it. It was so exciting to watch that preview with an audience. To see it up on the screen. I’m very excited for people to see it.

What This Means For Keeper

Perkins Is Following His Word

Maslany's statement about Keeper aligns with comments Perkins has made about his future movies. In an interview with The Kingcast, the horror director mentioned that he is at a phase in his career where he does not want to "retread anything." This, for him, means most likely not going back to a King adaptation or doing Longlegs 2 that looks anything like the original. As such, it sounds likeKeeper's starkly different world that Maslany describes aligns with the parameters that Perkins set for himself.

Keeper will have some crossover with The Monkey in that it will feature the same director and one of the main actors. However, even the premise itself is different from either of Perkins' immediate predecessors. Per the early synopsis, the film will tell the story of a wife left alone in a cabin after her husband departs their anniversary trip, leaving her to confront a sinister presence connected to the cabin's history. From the sound of it and sneak peek, Keeper will focus heavily on Maslany's character alone, making it a more intimate character narrative than Perkins' other works.

Our Take On Maslany's Keeper Comments

Changing Things Up Does Not Always Work For Perkins

Perkins' commitment not to "sit anywhere in" the worlds he creates makes him stand out in the horror landscape. In a time when horror sequels like Smile 2 and Terrifier 3 are doing well at the box office, it can be easy for indie directors to look towards reworking similar material. That said, Perkins' commitment to change is not necessarily synonymous with equal reception, as Longlegs was generally better received than The Monkey. Still, making very different types of work can keep things interesting, and if Maslany's quote pans out, Keeper is one such project.
