Love Is Blind Season 8: Lauren O’Brien’s Ex Drama Proves Producers Don’t Care About The Cast (Were They Trying To Intensify The Drama?)

The drama surrounding Lauren O'Brien's alleged friend with benefits proves that Love Is Blind producers don't care about their cast members. David "Dave" Bettenburg exhibited numerous red flags in the pods, including calling women over 30 "unattractive," asking women what's wrong with them, and preferring a certain beauty standard fueled by Botox and fillers. Despite the numerous warning signs, Lauren accepted a proposal from Dave, who became increasingly disengaged by the Love Is Blind season 8 experiment.

Dave's disdain for Lauren began in Honduras when he became annoyed by her seemingly hourly bathroom habits and lack of intimacy. The Love Is Blind season 8 cast provided the most boring mixer ever, with Dave asking the entire cast who's had sex being the only interesting part of their meetup. It was unsurprising that Dave took any excuse he could to demonize Lauren because of his obvious lack of attraction towards the 31-year-old curriculum salesperson. However, Love Is Blind producers are the real villains here.

Reddit sleuth u/constanteggs managed to find Daniel Nides, also known as @gymtanlaw on Instagram, who was Lauren's alleged friend with benefits.

"Not this man creating his own Love is Blind promo poster," the original poster wrote, continuing, "Lauren is a sweetheart, but needs up change up the type of guys she dates. Between Dave and this guy, they are the absolute wooooorst."

The Twin Cities-based man practices law in Mendota Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis-St. Paul. While the post seemed like a fame-hungry move, he's since made his Instagram page private.

Daniel's personal page might be private, but he's still active on his CrossFit profile under the username @teamdandies, where he posts photos and videos of his self-proclaimed "elite intermediate" team. Before he made his profile private, Daniel shared an Instagram Reel with receipts highlighting production's stalking of his LinkedIn page and messages asking him to speak with production or come on the show. He later made his own Love Is Blind poster when Lauren's story blew up in the most recent episodes of the show, leading to accusations of clout chasing.

Dave wouldn't listen to a word Lauren said regarding the situation, and she was forced to repeatedly defend her character. When the pair got back to the United States, Dave was nervous about calling his controlling sister, and wanted to have the conversation by himself. Meanwhile, his friends figured out who Lauren was and shared that she was sleeping with someone they knew. Dave was so insecure that he immediately went into a tailspin, especially considering the fact that he and Lauren didn't seem to have sex in Honduras.

Dave picked Lauren because he thought she was this chaste, virginal stereotype of a teacher. He assumed this personality would be liked by his sister. Molly, meanwhile, represented the fun, less serious girl.

However, Lauren is a person, not a trope, and finding out that she was casually sleeping with a guy before appearing on Love Is Blind rocked his world.

It's almost like Dave was angry with Lauren for having sexual connections before him.

There's nothing Lauren could say to change Dave's mind about the situation. Plenty of people in their 20s and 30s casually date and sleep with people they never intend to marry. Lauren even said she was never in a relationship with this man and didn't think it mattered because there's no way she could have known she would actually get engaged on Love Is Blind season 8. She didn't deserve to get blatantly shamed by Dave or production by putting a totally normal situation on blast. Dave clearly doesn't live in the 21st century.

Production used Lauren to spice up the boring Minneapolis season, but it wasn't fair to blindside her. Lauren seems like a genuine person who went on Love Is Blind with good intentions. There have been comparisons to Trevor Sova, the Love Is Blind season 6 cast member who had a serious girlfriend when he went on the show. However, that's clearly not Lauren's situation at all. She had a friend with benefits that was so casual she didn't even think about sharing it in the pods.

Dave needs to take a long look in the mirror and think about why he's still single rather than shaming a grown woman for having a sexual life before him.

Furthermore, Lauren let Dave know in Honduras that she was intermittently sleeping with someone and dropped it so flippantly that it was clear she didn't think it was anything to worry about. Daniel, her friend with benefits, put production on blast on his now-private Instagram by sharing how much they were dogging him for details and to appear on the show. Dave was just using this situation to avoid the villain edit, but it's easy to see through his nonsense. Lauren didn't deserve what happened to her in Love Is Blind season 8.
