It’s no secret to hikers that the tick population is growing at an alarming rate. Now, two Maine moms have created a natural, water-based tick repellent they claim really works. “Flick the Tick” is absent of chemicals found in traditional tick repellents. Instead, it contains natural oils like cedarwood, citronella, and geranium. In a lab demonstration conducted by vector ecologists at Maine Medical Center, ticks were repelled by Flick the Tick at the same rate as Picaridin. The creators say it also protects against mosquitoes, black flies, and other insects. The solution is made in Fayette, Maine, about an hour from the New Hampshire border, and sold nationwide.
