Married At First Sight: Dr. Pia Holec Has Become The Lead Expert (But Is She The Right Expert Choice To Take Over The Show?)
Dr. Pia Holec has stepped into the leading expert role in Married at First Sight, but whether she's right for the position is in question. Dr. Pia, 39, has been working with experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz, 79, and Pastor Cal Roberson, 63, since season 15. The MAFS experts are tasked with playing matchmaker, and choosing which applicants would pair up well together. They are meant to take cultural, moral, religious, and physical appearance preferences into consideration when choosing the couples.
In MAFS' history, the success rate has been poor, at only 18.75% all-time. In the last four seasons Dr. Pia has been a part of the show, only one couple (not incuding the season 18 couples) is still together. The point of the show is for people who are expertly matched to say yes to each other come decision day, after eight weeks of being married and living together. Past that, the hope is for the couples to stay together in lasting marriages. Dr. Pia has more of a presence on the show now, but that is seeming like a negative thing to fans.

Dr. Pia was very active in MAFS season 17 in Denver. She met with most of the couples individually, and did not make a good impression on them. She was often combative, played favoritism, and wore her ill-feelings on her face. That kind of attitude from an expert is not a positive thing, but it has made for good reality TV. Dr. Pia's controversial status has been a good thing for her in terms of the show, because she's gotten a lot more air time in the latest two seasons.

Dr. Pia has forged herself as the leading expert over Dr. Pepper and Pastor Cal, as she's been a part of the most pivotal discussions among the Married at First Sight season 18 couples. Dr. Pia has deescalated the most situations in season 18, and she has been firm with her advice and advocacy.
With Dr. Pia calling the most shots, it's become clear that she has become the "expert" face of the show, which MAFS fans aren't happy about.

Married at First Sight fans have been speaking out against Dr. Pia on social media, most notably, on X. Several well-liked posts have been about Dr. Pia's perceived poor conduct and therapy approaches. @beingnozey on X shared a popular sentiment about Dr. Pia.
"Finding out Dr. Pepper picked someone else for Emem but Dr. Pia convince them to pick Ikechi is about to be my 13th reason."
When considering Dr. Pia's actions with Ikechi Ojoré and Emem Obot, another viewer shared their disdain.
"I’m getting tired of Emem apologizing and trying to make this “marriage” work. And why is Dr. Pia trying to make this of a 'marriage'work? This is another example of why I lost ALL respect for Dr. Pia."
Harping further on Dr. Pia, someone else made a strong remark.
"I’m a just say it.. they need to get rid of Dr. Pia. No trained professional would push for this abusive a** relationship!"
Given Married at First Sight fan reaction, making Dr. Pia the leading expert is seemingly a bad idea. However, since reality TV fans love to hate, and controversy breeds viewership, it could prove a good move for the franchise going forward.
