Marvel Rivals Is Growing, And It's Getting Ready to Take Over Some Key Comics
Marvel Rivals has proven to be a massive hit among comic fans and gamers alike, and its success is being celebrated with new variant covers. Marvel Rivals is an online third-person shooter video game in the same vein as Overwatch, except its extensive roster consists of iconic Marvel characters who have been updated with stunning redesigns. Now, those designs have made their comic debut in the form of covers across multiple Marvel comics.
AIPT just revealed an upcoming series of variant covers that put Marvel Rivals' colorful cast of characters on full display in artwork by NetEase Games. Readers can look forward to checking out these variants for issues once they are released throughout March 2025 in commemoration of Marvel Rivals' continued prosperity.
This exciting release of variant covers is following in the footsteps of an initial drop in January 2025, with these additions to that first line hitting shelves this March. From Doctor Doom to Loki, a thrilling selection of beloved heroes is getting a much-needed focus in both Marvel Rivals and the comics.
Marvel Rivals Is Bringing Its Eye-Catching Designs to the Comics
Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, And More Get Stunning Cover Artwork
January's collection of Marvel Rivals variant covers focused on heroes like Spider-Man, Storm, Venom, and Magik, and acclaimed artist Peach Momoko also contributed with art of Galacta. This next batch will cover those who were excluded from the original round. Doctor Strange of Asgard #1, Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #6, and One World Under Doom #2 will feature their titular characters with their video game appearances, whereas Amazing Spider-Man #69 depicts Peni Parker and her SP//dr mech suit on its cover and Immortal Thor #21's variant stars none other than the divine duo of Loki and Hela.
In addition, Marvel Comics has announced later comics that are due to receive variants in March, though the art has yet to be unveiled. Psylocke and the Hulk seem to be among the playable fighters who are slated to get the variant cover treatment in the comics, among characters like Luna Snow, signaling that the entire roster has the potential to make the leap from the screen to the page. Marvel Rivals has propelled numerous characters to popularity, and this cover artwork takes advantage of that fame by exposing comic readers to the characters' epic new looks.
Marvel Rivals' Comic Expansion Isn't Limited to Variant Covers
With New Comics on the Horizon, Marvel's Hit Game Is Making Waves
While these variant covers are certainly exciting for fans of Marvel Rivals who want to collect art of their favorite characters, they aren't the only tie-ins bridging the divide between the game and the comics it draws from. Paul Allor and Luca Claretti's Marvel Rivals Infinity Comic miniseries is receiving a physical release this April, and Marvel Comics has also announced that the game's version of the Fantastic Four will soon be getting their own stories told. From variant covers to actual comics, Marvel Rivals is transcending mediums thanks to its innovative takes on classic characters.
