Marvel's First 2025 Release Just Took A Major Shot At Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming Suit Made By Tony Stark

2025 has barely begun, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has wasted no time in taking shots at Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming suit in a creative and interesting way. Spider-Man's MCU suits have been a key part of showing his journey, with the hero having worn a range of costumes that can be connected to specific points in his story. While the MCU timeline is certainly indebted to Tony Stark and his story, it is refreshing to see heroes like Spider-Man also get suits and arcs that are less directly linked to the Iron Man story.

Outfits may seem like a shallow point of contention, but the MCU's best costumes have genuinely elevated the material they appear in. Seeing Wolverine wear his comic-accurate cowl in Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the highlights of that film, and understanding these costumes and where they come from can impact the overall experience of releases as a whole. With that in mind, Marvel has made some clever choices, and some clever quips, concerning Spider-Man's recent appearances inside and outside of the main MCU universe.

Spider-Man: Homecoming's Stark Drone Tech Is Called Out In Marvel's First 2025 Release

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Finds Drones To Be Too Much

During an important scene in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 3 - where Peter Parker meets Norman Osborn for dinner in a fancy restaurant that the businessman has rented out - Norman reveals how he has been searching for Spider-Man, ultimately discovering Peter is the hero. After this, Osborn becomes excited about all the ways that he can help Peter in his mission. Osborn speaks at length about his ideas, some of which he rattles off from the top of his head, including the installation of a drone in Spider-Man's suit.

Immediately after suggesting this, Osborn dismisses it, calling it "a bit too much."This contrasts with Stark's version of the Spider-Man suit, which did feature a drone, allowing this dialogue to work as a subtle insult to the tech Tony built. With Osborn in charge, it seems that this version of the Spider-Man suit and all the gadgets that it carries will be different than the MCU version. It appears Osborn and Stark may have disagreed about the importance of certain uniform features.

Why Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming Suit Drone Actually Makes Sense

The Character's Relationship To Iron Man Has Shaped The MCU Hero

Tony Stark builds weapons technology, and his Iron Man suit is essentially a drone itself. With this in mind, it makes sense that Peter Parker in the MCU, under the tutelage of Stark, would have drones put into his suit. While from a certain outlook this may seem a bit too much, these devices were genuinely helpful to Peter in the MCU films. The drone was used to save his classmates in Washington, D.C., and contributed to another idea of what Spider-Man could be. This marks an excellent difference between Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and the MCU.

In truth, the MCU Spider-Man is a bit of a riff on Iron Man himself. With drones and technology at his disposal, this version of the hero is different from most of the comic book versions, even if he makes sense in the MCU. Iron Man was the first hero introduced in the franchise, and his shadow looms large, to the point that Robert Downey Jr. is now set to return as the powerful Doctor Doom. With Iron Man's importance, even if a drone might be "a bit too much" for some iterations of the hero, it made sense for this Spider-Man to have one.

One of the most wonderful things about Spider-Man is that there can be many different takes on the hero. With the Spider-Verse films expanding that on-screen legacy, it seems that there will continue to be even more divergent iterations of the hero in the future, and that the way some of them use technology may clash with others. Either way, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man feels just as true to the spirit of the character as the Tom Holland version, drone or not, and this clever moment only helps to drive that point home.
