Monster Hunter Wilds Update Fixes One Of Fans' Most Annoying Game-Breaking Bugs

Monster Hunter Wilds is receiving another update this week to address one of the most frustrating game-breaking bugs that is bothering players. The patch will fix an issue in Chapter 5-2 of the main mission where a missing NPC prevents story progression. Capcom first commented on the bug on March 2 and quickly promised a fix. The following day, the studio confirmed the update would be released on March 4 at 12 am PST.

The Monster Hunter Status X account announced the update and revealed it would address more than just one bug. In addition to fixing the story progression issue, the patch will also resolve two major glitches on all platforms ---one where the Smithy doesn’t function as intended and another that makes the “Grill a Meal” and “Ingredient Center” features inaccessible.

Several Bugs Have Plagued Monster Hunter Wilds Playthroughs Since Launch

Bugs, Bugs, And More Bugs

The bug, which prevented an NPC from spawning to progress the main storyline, halted player progression. While Capcom initially didn't have a timeline for the fix, it seems a resolution is now on the way. Previously, the two other glitches that were blocking feature unlocks were being addressed with simple hotfixes for certain platforms. However, these will now be included in the upcoming Tuesday update and are expected to be fully resolved. Unfortunately, these are not the only issues that Monster Hunter Wilds has faced in its short lifespan.

Monster Hunter Wilds fans feel as though the game holds their hand a bit too much, taking some of the fun away from the immersive world around them.

Shortly after the launch, players began reporting several issues with the game. One of the most significant bugs causes the game to crash and/or freeze randomly. This makes the game difficult to get through. Additionally, players were unable to access certain options due to constant in-game tutorial pop-ups.

Other technical problems, such as stuttering and missing assets, contributed to the game’s Steam reviews dropping below 50% positive. Fortunately, Capcom has been responsive, quickly releasing hotfixes and patches to address these game-breaking issues.

Responses to the planned update appear to be mixed, with many players arguing that what the game needs most is better optimization. The replies to the Monster Hunter Status post feature several posts arguing for optimization fixes over some of the other issues on which Capcom appears to be focusing. User Mish on X writes, “Can we get a performance patch? It sucks that devs of today rely on upscalers and frame gen instead [of] actual optimization.” Meanwhile, another user that goes by Eric chimed in stating, “A patch to address performance would be fantastic.”

It seems that players would prefer that Capcom focus on the constant crashing and freezing that plague Monster Hunter Wilds. Another comment acknowledges that these two issues are making the game unenjoyable. User Jay Smith comments, “When it actually runs, the game runs smoothly for me. I just want a solution to all the crashes. I go on two hunts, no issue. In the middle of the third hunt, without fail, the game crashes.”

While Capcom can be commended for fixing game-breaking bugs like the missing NPC, it seems that fans want better optimization. After all, fixing all the game-breaking bugs won’t do anyone any good if Monster Hunter Wilds constantly crashes or freezes up.
