More Than A Decade After Its Release, True Detective Gets Near-Perfect Accuracy Score From Real Serial Killer Detective: "I Would Give This A Nine"
There have been many critically acclaimed crime dramas on HBO. The network revolutionized television with shows like The Wire and The Sopranos at the turn of the century. The Wire examined the narcotics scene in Baltimore through the eyes of law enforcement officers, as well as drug dealers and drug users. Meanwhile, The Sopranos focused much more on criminals than law enforcement officers. The Emmy-winning series followed Tony Soprano, who was a prominent member of the mob.
After having immense success with these series, HBO has continued to produce shows in the crime genre. Mare of Easttown is an example of a more recent crime series that follows a detective who investigates a murder in a small Pennsylvania town. However, seven years before Mare of Easttown, a crime series debuted on HBO that has been applauded as one of the best shows of all time. Season 1 of HBO's True Detective has an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and was recently praised by a former homicide detective.
True Detective Receives A Strong Rating From A Former Homicide Detective
True Detective Follows Two Detectives Solving A Murder Investigation
Former homicide detective Pat Postiglione gave True Detectiveseason 1 a strong rating for accuracy in serial killer investigations. The story of True Detective season 1 follows detectives Rust and Marty at two different points in their lives: while they are solving a murder as partners and when they must revisit the investigation 17 years later. The cast of True Detective season 1 includes Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, and Alexandra Daddario.
In a video for Insider, Postiglione applauded True Detective for realistically portraying how detectives would approach a crime scene. He pointed out that neither detective touched the victim and even wore gloves, so they didn't get their own fingerprints on the crime scene. He also thought it was smart of Marty to order a grid search to try to find the serial killer. Overall, Postiglione gave True Detective an accuracy score of 9 out of 10. Read his full thoughts on the show below:
I would give this a nine. I think what strikes me as being somewhat accurate is the two detectives standing over the victim, just discussing injuries, maybe what we're looking at, you know, it's difficult to tell. We don't know, so we're kind of throwing information back and forth.
I think my favorite scene that I watched today was from True Detective, when they were going after the bad guy, when they went into the house to try to clear the house, their discussions, their interaction when they found the body.
Our Thoughts On True Detective's Strong Rating From Pat Postiglione

Furthermore, the success of the first season has led to three more seasons of the show. When comparing all four seasons of True Detective, it remains clear that season 1 remains the strongest. Therefore, it is great that True Detective season 1 received a strong rating from a former detective.
