My Favorite One Piece Character Is Coming To Live-Action Soon, And I’m Confident Netflix Will Get Them Right

One Piece season 2 is when my favorite character from the anime will make their live-action debut, and I believe that the Netflix show will get them right. The fact that One Piece of all anime series now has a successful, well-received Hollywood live-action adaptation is rather surprising considering how unique and larger-than-life that world is. One Piece season 1 proved all my fears wrong, and now I'm excited to see how future seasons will tackle all the other characters, locations, and arcs from Oda’s manga.

As impressive as it was to see a live-action anime adaptation that remained as faithful to the source material as possible, One Piece will have much bigger challenges going forward. Just like Luffy and his crew will now have to face bigger pirates as they enter the Grand Line, the Netflix adaptation will have to adapt some very tricky characters and stories. From giants to armies meeting on the battlefield, One Piece only gets bigger and bolder as it goes on. This includes the introduction of major new characters, one of whom is Nico Robin.

Robin’s Live-Action Debut Is One Of The Most Exciting Things About One Piece Season 2

Miss All Sunday has been cast for One Piece season 2, and while Netflix will not officially refer to Lera Abova’s character as Nico Robin, we know that this Baroque Works member eventually joins Luffy’s crew. One of the anime’s most popular characters, Nico Robin made her manga debut in 1999 and has since been a very important part of the puzzle that is One Piece. Although it takes a while for us to learn about her past and the secrets she hides, Robin has a complex backstory that makes her character even more interesting.

Miss All Sunday

Considering that Robin has been part of the crew for so long now, it will be fun to revisit her Miss All Sunday days, this time in live-action. A lot more has been revealed about Nico Robin ever since she first appeared in the anime, and depending on how long you’ve been a One Piece fan, seeing her as a villain again in season 2 will feel quite nostalgic. Robin and Chopper are the two major characters making their live-action debuts in One Piece season 2, and I can’t wait to see how the Netflix series will approach them.

Getting Nico Robin’s Character Right Is Not Easy (But The Netflix Show Can Do It)

We Shouldn’t Learn Too Much About Robin’s Past In Seasons 2 And 3

One Piece season 1’s cast was one of the best things about the show and helped me embrace this live-action adaptation that could have gone wrong in a dozen different ways. That said, another strength of Netflix’s One Piece was the writing and how the show never steered away too much from Oda’s work. From the flashbacks showing the backstories of each of the Straw Hats to the way they quickly bonded, Netflix’s One Piece nailed the most important aspects of the East Blue saga despite the changes made. This is why I’m confident that they will get Robin right.

One Piece season 2 will not include the Arabasta arc, with the season stopping at Drum Island instead.

My anticipation for One Piece season 2 doesn’t stop at Miss All Sunday. The Arabasta saga is one of my favorites from the anime, especially because the characters had already been established and we could now have fun in that world. From Princess Vivi tricking Baroque Works to Chopper’s heartbreaking backstory, One Piece season 2 should have plenty of great moments and can easily be better than the first season if done right. I am curious to see how Robin’s powers will look in live-action and hope they can have a body horror element to them.

Nami’s Story In One Piece Season 1 Proves The Netflix Show Will Nail Robin

Robin Also Has Secrets That Will Not Matter To Luffy

More than just a charismatic and powerful pirate who goes from antagonist to hero, Nico Robin is a fascinating character whose past is tied to some of the biggest secrets of the One Piece world. Although it might be tempting for the show to hint at Robin’s past as early as in season 2, Netflix’s One Piece must be careful not to reveal too much about the character just yet. Part of what makes Robin’s story so great is that Luffy does not care about her past, and he asks no questions before welcoming her into his ship.

One Piece Season 2's Story Split Means Season 3 Must Avoid A Streaming Problem That's Getting Worse

With One Piece season 3's story rapidly becoming clear, a future season must avoid one problem that's becoming increasingly prevalent in streaming.

This is somewhat similar to Nami’s story, which One Piece season 1 handled very well. Apart from a few nitpicks, namely the fact that the Nami episodes were too rushed, I loved how the “Help me” scene turned out in live-action. While this will take a while considering the pace of the Netflix show, I hope One Piece gets to Enies Lobby so we can have Robin saying “I want to live” in live-action too.
