The Nature Conservancy acquired 24,364-acre Cojo Jalama Ranches, a cattle ranch in Santa Barbara County with 8 miles of coast and coastal oak forest ecosystems, last month thanks to a private donation of $165 million. TNC will study how to turn the parcel into a nature preserve; future goals include building a research facility and adding environmental education programs.
