Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series may have found its Mr. Darcy with a Slow Horses star in talks. Jane Austen's famous 1813 novel follows the sharp-witted and headstrong Elizabeth Bennet, who realizes that love can overcome both pride and prejudice through her evolving relationship with the wealthy but initially aloof Mr. Darcy. The story has been adapted to the screen countless times over the years, but in October 2024, it was announced that Netflix was developing a Pride and Prejudice series with Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton writing the scripts.
Now, the series adaptation may have found its first cast member. According to Variety, Slow Horses star Jack Lowden is in talks to play Mr. Darcy in Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series. Netflix declined to comment on the casting report, so it hasn't been officially confirmed quite yet.

With Jack Lowden reportedly in talks to play Mr. Darcy in Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series, with a deal seemingly close to being done, the adaptation is also likely close to casting the other lead role of Elizabeth Bennet, whose tumultuous relationship with Mr. Darcy forms the central conflict of Jane Austen's novel. There have been some unverified reports floating around the British media suggesting that Daisy Edgar-Jones might play Elizabeth Bennet. However, no official casting announcements have been made yet.

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the grandmother of the enemies-to-lovers trope, and some movie adaptations nailed this more than others.
If the casting is finalized, Lowden would join a distinguished list of actors who have portrayed Mr. Darcy on screen. Matthew Macfadyen memorably took on the role in the 2005 film adaptation alongside Keira Knightley, while the 1995 BBC series catapulted Colin Firth to fame. Lowden would sign onto the Pride and Prejudice series with a lot of experience in British historical dramas, having starred in the BBC's War & Peace series, Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots, and Benediction. However, he's perhaps best known for his Emmy-nominated role in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses.

Is He A Good Casting Choice?
Jack Lowden could be an inspired casting choice for Mr. Darcy. In Slow Horses, he plays a character who is closely guarded, perfect for Darcy's aloof personality, but is also deeply principled, another trait that aligns closely with Austen's iconic hero. Lowden's past performances in War & Peace and Benediction also showcase his ability to convey both brooding reserve and subtle vulnerability. If he brings some of that same complexity to Darcy, he may well capture the pride, restraint, and eventual warmth that make him such an enduringly compelling character. Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series might be onto something here.
