Nicolas Cage’s Major Career Change Should Be The Start Of A New Trend For The Oscar-Winning Actor
For decades, Nicolas Cage has been a pillar of Hollywood, but for the first time ever, the actor is making a massive career change that could be the start of an awesome new era. Nowadays, Cage is best known for projects like National Treasure and Longlegs, but the actor first got his start in 1982 with a minor role in the teen comedy, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Since then, he has taken on an impressive number of diverse movie roles. However, as much as Cage's movies are beloved, his upcoming TV project could be even better.
In the age of streaming, it is quite common for actors to appear in both TV and movies. Regardless of where they start off, actors will often transition into the other format eventually, and more often than not, they thrive on this new platform. Some strong examples include Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Matthew McConaughey. Cage is one of very few actors who have remained firmly in the film industry, but now that he is dipping his toes into television, he could unlock a whole new side of his career that could make him even more popular.

Why Cage Never Did TV
In the next year or two, Cage is set to star in Spider-Noir, a television series based on the character of the same name, who was first introduced on-screen in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Notably, Cage voiced Spider-Noir in the animated film, but he will now embody the character in live-action, alongside actors like Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Li Jun Li. Spider-Noir is set during the American Great Depression, and will follow Spider-Noir as he tries to save his city all on his own. The show will stream on MGM+, though it has no release date yet.
Cage's role in Spider-Noir is a big deal, not only because of its franchise ties and star-studded cast, but because it is Cage's first ever leading role on television. Over the years, Cage never really specified why he avoided acting on television, but in a 2023 interview with Deadline, he did admit that he doesn't watch much TV. That is, until his son introduced him to Breaking Bad. Since then, Cage has publicly acknowledged his urge to work on television, leaving behind movies unless a truly wonderful project comes up.
