The primary objective of Loid's mission, titled Operation Strix, is to get close to politician Donovan Desmond and obtain insider information on the conflict between the two countries to hopefully prevent it from escalating. However, according to a recent update to the Spy X Family manga, Donovan may be a bigger threat than Loid even realizes.

Chapter #110 Revealed Donovan’s Ultimate Secret, Which Could Threaten Loid’s Fate
Considering this recent development in chapter #110 of the manga, fans on X are terrified about what will happen to Loid. The chapter delves into Donovan's mysterious past, as expressed to Loid by Donovan's wife, Melinda. During the conversation, Melinda was deeply concerned, explaining to Loid that Donovan no longer feels like the man she initially married, and that he is displaying some disturbing traits, which even led her to suspect an alien took over his body. This theory may seem outlandish, but the next bombshell Melinda dropped about Donovan was even more distressing.
Melinda admitted that Donovan can read minds, which has worrying repercussions for Loid and his mission. Upon learning this information, fans began combing through Loid's past interactions with the puzzling character, and realized that since Donovan can read minds, Loid may be in even greater danger than he previously believed. It took a long time for Loid to finally encounter Donovan face-to-face, since he is an extremely private man who is rarely seen in public, but Loid finally ran into him at Eden Academy one day. The pair had a brief conversation, and Loid attempted to gain Donovan's favor.

The Spy’s Secret Thoughts During This Scene Have Now Backfired Horribly
As Loid spoke to Donovan, he was incredibly focused on earning the man's trust first, and then later manipulating him into revealing key information about the conflict between Ostania and Westalis. However, unbeknownst to Loid, Donovan was actually able to read his mind during this interaction and figure out Loid's cunning scheme and true intentions. Unwittingly, Loid revealed his true identity to Donovan in this moment, through something as simple as his own thoughts. With this knowledge in mind, Operation Strix will be much more difficult for Loid to complete, since Donovan is fully aware of his dishonesty and will never trust him.
Things do not look favorable for Loid right now, and many fans have expressed their distress over this revelation, because Donovan will likely seek revenge on the spy for his deception and the fact that he is on the opposite side of the fight. Another recent chapter revealed that Donovan's son Damian also has a supernatural ability, so it is no great surprise that Donovan does too. Whether Donovan is truly being controlled by an alien or if he is just really that villainous is still up for debate, but hopefully, future Spy X Family chapters will shed more light on this plot twist.
