"Oh No, He's Hot": Marvel Is Ready to Update Tony Stark's Look In the Best Possible Way
Marvel has released its Tony Stark design for an upcoming 1960s-era period piece – and the immediate fan consensus is that he looks good. Stark has been many things during his history in Marvel Comics: genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and now he's officially a dreamboat, as artist Valerio Schiti shares his character designs for the upcoming Captain America series, including a hunky-looking Iron Man.
As reported by AIPT, Schiti will join writer Chip Zdarsky at the helm of a new Captain America series due out this summer. The series will focus on Steve Rogers’ time directly after he was unfrozen after WWII and before he joined the Avengers, giving insight into a whole period of Captain America lore that has been sparsely explored before now.
Based on initial sketches, other characters will also appear, including Reed Richards, Thaddeus Ross, and the Howling Commandos; however, it is Schiti’s Tony Stark design that stands out, even more so than Steve Rogers in his own series.

Captain America #1 – Written By Chip Zdarsky; Art & Character Designs By Valerio Schiti
While Tony Stark is typically depicted as an average-looking middle-aged man, Schiti’s design paints Iron Man in a new and captivating light. His Iron Man suit is similar to the design from the Golden Age of comics, highlighting bright gold and red colors. But it’s not the Iron Man suit that has people talking. It’s Tony Stark in his “regular” clothes – or what passed as regular clothes for a wealthy man in the early 1960s – with dark, slightly mussed hair and piercing blue eyes that stand out.
Fans will have to wait to find out what Chip Zdarsky has in store for Tony Stark in terms of plot, but Valerio Schiti’s initial design has certainly gained attention.
Schiti’s version of Tony is reminiscent of Dominic Cooper’s style as Howard Stark in the MCU. Whether or not Schiti took inspiration from the MCU or not is unknown, but it’s clear that Schiti is honing in on the tone of the early 1960s. It isn’t hard to imagine Tony Stark in his sleek searsucker suit drinking a martini or listening to some jazz music on the record player in his workshop. Fans will have to wait to find out what Chip Zdarsky has in store for Tony Stark in terms of plot, but Valerio Schiti’s initial design has certainly gained attention.

While Captain America slumbered in ice, the world changed—for better and for worse. He awakens to a reality where battles are fought in the shadows through secrets and subterfuge, and villains aren’t so easy to identify. When a fledgling dictator named Victor Von Doom conquers Latveria, Steve faces a critical decision: adapt to a new kind of warfare, or forge his own path? And what will the choice he makes in the past mean for his future?
But the story will not only remain in the 1960s. AIPT Comics reported that the series will progress into the future, or current times.
The series will feature insights into Captain America’s role and legacy as he learns just how much the world has changed in his absence, this top secret conflict will come back to haunt all involved when the series progresses into present-day storylines.
It will be interesting to see an unknown period of Captain America’s history, not only to see how this time affected Steve as a person, but how other well-known Marvel characters – such as Doctor Doom and Tony Stark – will play into the narrative.

Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America's birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
