One Harry Potter Star Needs To Appear In HBO's Remake & There's Already An Obvious Role He Can Play
One original Harry Potter star should appear in the remake and play a new role. HBO's Harry Potter show will adapt the seven books, with a season dedicated to each novel. Francesca Gardiner, who previously worked on HBO's His Dark Materials and Succession, is the showrunner for the Harry Potter series. Game of Thrones director Mark Mylod is also attached as a producer and will direct multiple episodes as he and Gardiner adapt the first Harry Potter book.
No official casting has been announced yet, although over 32,000 children auditioned for the parts of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Reportedly, Mark Rylance and Paapa Essiedu have been in talks to play the respective roles of Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape, and Brett Goldstein has been eyed to play Rubeus Hagrid. Most or all of the Harry Potter cast will be new to the franchise, but there is one familiar face the HBO series should include.
Tom Felton Would Consider Appearing In HBO's Harry Potter Remake (& He Needs To)
He Is Open To Returning In More Than One Way
When asked in late 2022 if he would return for future Harry Potter movies, Tom Felton shared that he "would definitely consider it" and that "I’d still just love to be part of the world." The Draco Malfoy star added that "I’d be happy to like pop up as an extra in the background." Only months later, in April 2023, the HBO Harry Potter series was announced, and its existence offers a potential avenue for Felton to step back into the franchise.
Felton's enthusiasm for Harry Potter has not waned as he continues to stay actively engaged with the fandom, and he has not lost his passion for the Wizarding World. He did a masterful job playing Draco in the movies, both when the character was antagonistic towards Harry and his friends, and when Draco became more conflicted later in the series. Felton grew up while playing Draco, and with the actor eager to return, it would be great to see him taking on a different part in the HBO show.
The Draco Star Is The Perfect Choice To Play Lucius Malfoy In The Harry Potter Show
Many Aspects Of Draco Can Translate Well To Playing Lucius
The ideal role for Felton to play in the Harry Potter show is Draco's father, Lucius Malfoy. During an interview with Pedestrian in October 2023, Felton stated "As far as casting me as Lucius: yes. I just don’t think they can afford me. Let’s make it clear I am joking.” Additionally, he said, "But also: I’m available." This confirms that Felton is not only open to returning to Harry Potter, but that he knows about the fandom's interest in him playing Lucius, and he is open to it.
As evidenced by his range when playing Draco, Felton can also master the range needed to play Lucius at different points in the Harry Potter show.
Draco's demeanor that Felton nailed in the movies can translate well to playing Lucius, as Draco is often trying to imitate his father. Lucius is intimidating in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but he is a shell of his former self in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. As evidenced by his range when playing Draco, Felton can also master the range needed to play Lucius at different points in the Harry Potter show.
