One Piece Cliffhanger Sets Up Kaido's Secret (Royal) Bloodline

Kaido’s abnormal toughness and horns, coupled with the way he spoke to Yamato about them being ogres, make it seem like he might not be human, but unfortunately, the issue was never addressed before he was defeated and taken out of the story.
Kaido’s heritage remains a major mystery in One Piece, but One Piece’s Elbaph arc might be hinting at the truth. While Kaido hasn’t appeared in the arc, nor has he even been so much as mentioned, one character has been noted by fans to bear a striking resemblance to Kaido, and because of that, One Piece chapter #1137 seems to have set up a major reveal of Kaido’s secret parentage. It’s not as cut and dry as people think, of course, but the implications of it all are no less exciting to think about.
How One Piece Hints At Kaido Secretly Being Part Of Elbaph’s Royal Family
One Piece chapter #1137 gave readers their first look at the late King Harald of Elbaph, and people have noticed that his scowling face and spiked goatee made him look very similar to Kaido. Granted, Eiichiro Oda’s art style doesn’t give every character a wholly unique appearance, but Harald was also noted to have horns from his ancient giant heritage, not unlike how Kaido has horns, so One Piece chapter #1137 could be hinting that Kaido is not only descended from the ancient giants, but is also the son of the late King Harald.
If Kaido is Harald’s son, then it would say a lot about both his past and his future. With how powerful Oars and the Numbers were, Kaido having ancient giant blood could explain his unnatural strength and durability, and with how much the Elbaph arc seems to be revolving around Harald’s legacy, Kaido secretly being another one of Harald’s children could be a means of bringing Kaido back to One Pieceeither posthumously or in person. Either case would be an easy way of giving Kaido some much-needed development, so in both cases, it would be great to see.
Why Kaido Being Half-Giant Isn’t As Cut-And-Dried As One Piece Fans Think
One Piece's Big New Theory Has Some Holes In It
As easy as it would be to say that Kaido is half-giant, that might be more complicated than people think. In volume #57’s SBS, Eiichiro Oda said that horns are just a thing some peoplehave, implying that it isn’t automatically special, and as tall as Kaido is, he’s nowhere close to the height of a giant, even though Colon and Big Pan, two explicit half-giants, show that even half-giants reach average giant height. Because of all that, the idea of Kaido being half-giant is complicated by how much information in and out of One Piece’s story contradicts the idea.
That being said, it’s not as if those contradictions completely rule anything out. While a character having horns probably means nothing most of the time, the attention the Elbaph arc draws to the horns of the ancient giants makes it clear that they’re important, and with the aforementioned similarities between Kaido and Harald, nothing in One Piece has yet to fully disprove the theory that Kaido is King Harald’s son. One Piece’s Elbaph arc has only just started, so if there is something to the theory, then hopefully, the story will see fit to address it sooner, rather than later.
