Oops, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Countdown Goes Live, & The Source Code Spoils What Game It Is
A new countdown indicates that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is back, and although the teaser itself is vague, a more definitive answer lies in the source code. The iconic THPS series last reappeared with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a 2020 remake of the first two games in the series. Despite a strong reception for the remake, official news about the series continuing had been quiet until the appearance of the countdown.
The source code for the countdown page on the official Tony Hawk's Pro Skaterwebsite contains a "thps 3 4 countdown" label, as spotted by former Screen Rant Gaming editor Christopher J. Teuton on Bluesky.
Oh, so it really is THPS 3 + 4 remakes. That's cool as hell. Also, surely you could have named this something else, right, if you were REALLY trying to hide it? — Christopher J. Teuton (@christeuton.bsky.social)2025-02-21T19:26:56.325Z
This seemingly confirms that the next release will be a THPS 3 + 4 remaster, as the release date on March 4 ("03.04.25") would also suggest. Likewise, the silhouette of a skater that appears above the date features a relatively similar pose to the image of Tony Hawk on the cover of THPS 4.
A Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remake Has Been Teased Before
This Isn't The First Major Clue
This isn't the first indication that the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series had something in the works, just the first relatively definitive sign of what to expect. In a 2024 video available from the Mythical Kitchen YouTube channel, Tony Hawk mentioned that Activision was working on a project that fans would appreciate, raising hopes for a THPS 3 + 4 remake.

Tony Hawk Says “We’re Working On Something” For THPS 25th Anniversary, Reviving Hopes For Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remakes
Tony Hawk suggests he’s in league with Activision for THPS’s 25th anniversary, which could potentially point to reviving canceled remakes.
Just a few days before the appearance of the countdown, pro skater Tyshawn Jones confirmed his involvement in an upcoming THPS remaster on the Breakfast Club podcast. Although other popular Tony Hawk games like Tony Hawk's Underground could also be strong candidates for remakes or remasters, the new evidence for a THPS 3 + 4 remake confirms what always seemed like the most probable outcome. It's not impossible that the "thps 3 4 countdown" could simply refer to the March 4 date, but at this point, it would be bizarre for the reveal to be anything else.
THPS 3 + 4 Remake Is The Perfect Next Step
Building On A Strong Foundation
Although the first two Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games still define the THPS series for many fans, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 are iconic games in their own right, and the THPS 1 + 2 remake lays the perfect foundation for the new project. My biggest question is about the team behind the project. Vicarious Visions, which handled the first remake, was merged into Blizzard several years ago and has been working as a support studio since. Now called Blizzard Albany, the studio retains the same offices, so it could hopefully remain in charge of the new project.
Regardless, I can't imagine that the THPS 3 + 4 remake will falter in the way that 2015's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 did. If the new venture is another success, I hope it can pave the way for an eventual Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 6 to push the series forward again. If not though, I'd happily take several more Tony Hawk's Pro Skaterremakes that keep up the same standard of quality.
