Chicago’s natural spaces–from forest preserves to tiny city lots–have a champion in Openlands, a volunteer-heavy organization dedicated to protecting and advocating for public lands. The group does everything from planting trees and gardens in urban spaces to landscape preservation work in local forest preserves to teaching Chicago kids about wildlife. Interested? Openlands is always looking for volunteers.
