Paradise's Music Explained By Composer In New Episode Of The Big Score Just In Time For The Season 1 Finale
The latest episode of The Big Score unravels the secrets of the music behind Paradise. The Big Score is a series from Hollywood Records that features interviews with the world’s best composers in which they explore the method and intention behind their work. It has covered everything from blockbuster projects to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to smaller dramas and thrillers like Boston Strangler. For Paradise, The Big Score centers on the music of composer Siddhartha Khosla.
Just in time for the Paradise season 1 finale, ScreenRant is happy to debut the latest episode of The Big Score highlighting Khosla’s music for the series. In the episode, Khosla breaks down the show’s surprising scarcity of key themes, explaining how the primary theme works for the ups and downs of the show. Khosla also compares his work on Paradise to work he did playing in bands as an up-and-coming musician, and reveals his longstanding friendship with Paradise creator Dan Fogelman. See the episode below–Paradise season 1 finale drops tomorrow, March 4.
You Already Know Siddhartha Khosla’s Music
Even if the name Siddhartha Khosla is unfamiliar to you, you’re most likely familiar with his music. This is because Khosla is one of the most well-rounded working composers, having turned in vastly different scores for a variety of high-profile projects. One of Khosla’s other biggest-name properties is Only Murders in the Building, of which he has scored all four seasons. That show, which evokes the feeling of New York City and even hints at the general sound of “podcast music”, has a sonic identity entirely different from Paradise, showcasing how different Khosla’s approaches to projects may be.
Khosla is also known for his prior collaboration with Fogelman, notably on all 6 seasons of This Is Us. That score is unlike both Paradise and Only Murders in the Building, incorporating elements like acoustic guitar to craft a soft and dramatic palette that aptly lift up the more emotional moments of the beloved drama. Khosla scored all 106 episodes of that series–a massive undertaking for someone who, while This Is Us was on air, also found time to write music for projects including Marvel’s Runaways and Love, Victor.
For network TV lovers, Khosla’s work is also heard on the hit procedural Elsbeth, where he works to to underscore the quirky yet effective methods of Carrie Preston’s Elsbeth Tascioni. Another recent project of Khosla’s is The Idea of You, the hit Anne Hathaway rom-com about the art gallery owner that falls in love with the lead member of a hit boy band. Each of those projects demanded a different musical approach, yet Khosla adroitly navigated the unique tones and needs of each project, helping them to shape their own identities.
Khosla’s work on Paradise is no different in that respect, making this episode of The Big Score worth a watch, if only to understand how the versatile composer comes to understand each project he scores.
The Paradise season 1 finale will be released March 4 on Hulu.
