Last weekend, ski patrollers conducting avalanche mitigation work at Mammoth Mountain set off an avalanche that reached a part of the mountain still open to the public and partially buried lift employees; no one was seriously hurt. The avalanche triggered search and rescue operations and closed down the resort.
