The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is urging hikers to recreate carefully during summer’s sweltering temperatures through its “Take a Hike, Do it Right” campaign, which reminds people to pack water, hike in a group, and maintain contact with others. The goal: to reduce the 200-plus rescues that happen every year on city parks and preserves. Several city parks are also extending their hours for summer to accommodate early hikers.
