Plan to Divert Millions to Conservation Clears State Senate

Rep. Sam Watson’s (R-Moultrie) two proposals to fund Georgia’s parks, trails, wildlife habitats, and hunting spaces through a diversion of sales tax on outdoor gear passed the state Senate unanimously this week. The measures are expected to send $20 million to the state’s open spaces initially, a number that could grow to $40 million in dedicated revenue. The proposals are expected to pass the House; they would then be sent to voters for approval in November.
