Several environmental groups urged vigilance on plastic pollution in the Great Lakes, warning that 22 million pounds of the stuff ends up in the waters each year. Major issues include microplastics and beach litter; proposed solutions are refundable deposits on plastic soda bottles and improved recycling rates on Chicago beaches.
