Thanks to Pokémon'ssuccess and popularity, it has become a global phenomenon with fans all over the world. The day marks the release of the first-ever Pokémon games, Pokémon Redand Green, in Japan in 1996, which would later lead to Red and Blue in the West in 1998. Pokémon Day is usually filled with exciting news and events for fans, including a Pokémon Presents,which announces any news or updates about the franchise. This could be updates to current games, upcoming games, or even surprise releases.

Pokémon Red and Blue helped launch a global sensation, turning Pokémon into one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. This year, Nintendo has the perfect chance to surprise fans with a special treat: a re-release of Pokémon Red and Blue. This would not only celebrate the history of Pokémon but also bring back a lot of great memories for fans, both old and new.

Nintendo Switch Online Would Be The Perfect Home For Pokémon Red & Blue

With The Re-Release On The 3DS, A Port Would Be Easy Enough

It's happened before; Pokémon Red and Blue were re-released on the 3DS during their 20th anniversary. It was a huge success then and would be a huge success now, as Nintendo Switch Online is the perfect home for classic Pokémon games. Nintendo Switch Online is already home to many must-play classic games, from Zelda, to Super Mario and Donkey Kong. Since Pokémon Red and Blue were already re-released on the 3DS, porting them to the Nintendo Switch Online platform would be a simple process.

Nintendo has done a great job of bringing retro games to the Switch, like NES and SNES titles. Adding Pokémon Red and Blue to the mix would be a natural next step, making it easier for both new and old players to experience these games, and the portability of the Nintendo Switch makes it ideal for playing these games, just like the original Game Boy. There are already rumors of a Pokémon Classic Collection coming to Nintendo Switch Online, so it's hopeful that we'll see Pokémon Red and Blue and other classic Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch soon. Hopefully, this will be confirmed at the upcoming Pokémon Presents.

If Pokémon re-releases were to come via Nintendo Switch Online, any subscriber would have access to Game Boy games like Red and Blue, but any originally released for the Game Boy Advance, like Ruby and Sapphire, would require an NSO + Expansion Pack membership.

Obviously, Pokémon Red and Blue would appeal most to longtime fans. However, it would also be a chance to introduce newer players to the roots of the Pokémon games and show them where it all started. I am definitely excited to see what's in store and would love to revisit these classics.
