Pokémon TCG Pocket Gets Surprise Tie-In With Pokemon Happy Meal Promotion
McDonald's has launched a new Pokémon Happy Meal promotion that includes a sizable Pokémon TCG Pocketreward. Starting today, McDonald's restaurants across the US are launching a new Happy Meal promotion featuring physical Pokémon cards. As in past years, the promotion will feature mini-packs of Pokémon cards along with some bonus prizes for kids. The set is made up of reprints although some use a special holofoil pattern exclusive to Happy Meal promotions.
As part of the new promotion, Pokémon TCG Pocket players can earn 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Wonder Hourglasses by ordering a Happy Meal through the McDonald's app. By ordering a Happy Meal through the app, players will receive a code that can be used in Pokémon TCG Pocket to unlock the rewards. While users can receive multiple codes, each Pokémon TCG Pocket account can only redeem one code. To receive the codes, McDonald's app users must opt in for emails in the app.
McDonald's Dragon Discovery Happy Meals Explained
Pokémon Happy Meals Includes Cards, Posters, And Sticker Puzzles
This year's McDonald's Happy Meal promotion is focused on Dragon-type Pokémon. In addition to about half of the cards in the new promotion featuring Dragon-type Pokémon, the new promotion will also feature four different Happy Meal boxes, each of which has a Dragon-type (or Dragon-type adjacent) Pokémon. The new boxes include Dragonite and Pikachu, Charizard, Rayquaza, and Roaring Moon. The new promotion also includes several posters and sticker puzzles where users can fill in the missing parts of certain Pokémon using stickers.
While Pokémon cards are currently in hot demand, keep in mind that most of these cards will be worthless in the open market. While it's probably worth buying a Happy Meal just for the Pokémon TCG Pocket rewards (especially since those rewards are the equivalent of the recent SP Emblem event's mission rewards), keep in mind that the cards in the Happy Meal won't have any value unless you're a collector or have a kid that just likes the cards.
Our Take: An Actual Reason To Use The McDonald's App
McDonald's has pushed their new app for a while, but this might be the impetus for me to start using it. It's hard to pass up on two free Pokémon TCG Pocket packs and some Wonder Hourglasses, especially as a new set is likely to come out sometime this month.
I usually save the Happy Meals for the kids, but I guess I'll either have to find an excuse for my family to go to McDonald's, or I'll just need to bite the bullet, download the McDonald's app and get those sweet Pokémon TCG Pocket rewards for myself.
