Pokémon TCG Pocket Player Adds AR Photography To Cards, Creating Stunning "New Genre" According To Fans
A Pokémon TCG Pocket player has digitally changed their cards, adding AR photography to them in what fans of their work are calling a “new genre” for the game. The virtual Trading Card Game is continuously expanding and has just recently seen the release of the new Space-Time Smackdown cards, which are focused on the fourth generation of games and the Sinnoh region. The game has also just recently introduced the trading feature and is continuing to add new events for players to partake in.
There isn’t a lack of new content for players to explore, but fans’ creativity never stops working. One of them customized some of the existing Pokémon TCG Pocket cards with exclusive artwork made by their own AR photography that was captured in Pokémon GO. As seen in a Reddit post, the user FeelTheDango shared their creations, highlighting several of the cards that currently exist within the virtual Trading Card Game, overlapped by AR photos they took from the respective creatures in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon TCG Player Uses Pokémon GO To Create New Card Art
AR Photography Is Overlapped With The Virtual Cards
The user posted a total of 12 of their card creations on Reddit. The first set shows cards for Rattata, Squirtle, and Caterpie. In each of the cards is a photo of the matching Pokémon, and the pictures themselves are extremely well taken. Rattata is gently smiling next to an outdoor den, while Squirtle is cheerful at the beach with waves crashing in the background. Caterpie, alternatively, is calmly resting on a tree leaf with a colorful flower behind it. This ingenious approach to AR photography is also applied to all the other custom Pokémon TCG Pocket cards.
The fan-made cards also include copies of Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Kingler, Aerodactyl, Nidorino, Hippopotas, Kirlia, and Heatran. Each of these creatures was photographed in Pokémon GO in scenarios that fit their general theme. Articuno, for instance, was photographed in a snowy region, while Nidorino was next to a river in the forest, and Hippopotas was at a sandy beach. The quality of the AR photographs for the Pokémon TCG Pocket cards caught the attention of other Reddit users, who complimented FeelTheDango’s work, with one user saying that they made “a new genre of cards.”
Our Take: Fan Creations Keep The Pokémon Community Thriving
The Fans Make Content For The Fans
As fantastic as the original artworks may be, this type of custom approach to the cards helps give them a lot more personality, especially knowing that it was crafted by a member of the community for the rest of us to enjoy. In fact, a lot of the positive energy and continuous love for the franchise comes from fan creations from within the Pokémon community rather than solely from the original products by Nintendo. Unique illustrations, modded games, and elaborate fan-made Pokémon designs never stop being shared, and they help feed our need for more content.
Furthermore, a lot of the fan creations surpass the quality that is offered by Nintendo and show unique ideas that the company wouldn’t normally tackle. It’s unlikely that it would ever merge the Trading Card Game with Pokémon GO, but the customized cards by FeelTheDango show exactly how fun and cool a crossover feature between both games could be, especially considering the unique and personalized results in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
